Hi guys
so just up graded my old faithful 1080 to a 5080 however things haven't really gone the way I would have liked them to. when I turn on the PC it will just sit with a black screen no video signals are detected. the RGB on the card is light but no fans are spinning.
So i plugged an HDMI cable into the onboard graphics and was able to get the system to boot into windows. once in windows I reinstalled the Nvidia drivers and discovered that the 5080 was being detected even more I could switch to the display port now and get a video signal from the 5080. after a few unsuccessful reboots I decided to update the motherboard BIOS hoping that this would resolve the issue however this added further instability to the system as it removed my stable overclock. So I have got the system stable again with some crude settings the BIOS is detecting a GPU in the slot but will still not give a video signal during bootup.
I'm kind of lost everything seems correct yet no go.
OK my system is older however my sons 4070ti works in it no problems at all.

system is
Asus Maximus X Code Z370 - most up to date BIOS
Intel 8700k
corsair 32GB 3200hhz
corsair HX850i PSU

Also add that I'm using 3 cables from the PSU into the adaptor that came with the graphics card to power it. And also when the PC is turned off there is a red light on the card to the left hand side of the power connector this light go's out once you turn the PC on I've read that this is normal behavior but thought that ill add this information.

Thanks Guys.

Yes I want to do that however its not located in the same house also the card will not fit in his case so it will be an operation to test it however I know this is an important step, was hoping to find the solation without having to do that if at all possible.

Update.
So using the onboard graphics and with the 5080 fitted I can boot into windows then once in windows I switch my monitor to display port and the 5080 seems to work however the fan still are not on though. So I installed Asus GPU tweak and using this I'm able to turn the fans on.
The 5080 is detected in AIDDA64 and the Nvida control panel Just the PC will not boot with just the 5080 fitted I'm lost anyone have any suggestions or anyone else using a 5080 on the ASUS maximus x code?
It also will play games just I've no confidence using it as I feel this issue needs to be resolve 1st.

however the fan still are not on though
I assume you're aware this is normal when a card is idle nowadays?

There seem to be a fair few reports that 8/9th and 10th gen PCs aren't too happy with these cards.

There's a thread here that may interest you:

Looks like there might be a BIOS or firmware bug.

OK thanks for this ill get a read at it now.

Just as a note for the fans not spinning. Its possible the GPU has fan stop whereby they won't turn on until the GPU itself hits a specific temperature (normally around 60C). To confirm if there is actually an issue (not clear from the above if this was the case or not) run any benchmark that will heat up the GPU to above the trigger point.

However as others have suggested, the underlying issue is most likely platform related (5000 series not liking 8/9/10 Gen Intel platforms).

I am sure we had a similar post a couple of weeks ago and when he updated to a current platform everything worked. It would seem that there could be a compatibility issue between Z370/Z390/Z490 chipsets and the RTX5000 series cpu's. One possible fix is to go into the motherboards bios and force pci-e gen 3, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I hope you are going to upgrade your cpu/motherboard/memory soon as that 8700k is going to be a hell of a bottleneck for a 5080.

Thanks guys,
Yeah my son is on the 13th gen platform and works as expected he suggested I take his 4070ti as it works in my rig and leave him with the 5080 just. I'll not lie its still tempting as I know the 4070ti works in my own rig.

I'll try that with the fans today alough they do seem to work manually but will be nice to see them work automatically as well.

I'm starting to believe it's the Asus Maximus X Codes issue not operating with the 5080 likly needs another BIOS update that isn't available and judging by the date of the most recent BIOS 2021 I doubt its on thier to do list.

Once I'm in Windows I can switch my monitor to display port thats connected to the DP on the 5080 and it works well I get a video signal and much better FPS over the on board graphics lol so it seems to be working this way however its not right its not doing what it should and I don't want to run it if its not working the way its supposed to.
I'd love your input on this matter do you think once booted all is good to switch over to it?
So far I've only done it to prove it works and rest the fans.

Do you think its worth getting a new PSU is it possible that could be part of it?

Yeah I updated to the newest BIOS available on the ASUS website, I was really hoping that would resolve the issue but unfortunately not.

Yeah they system is indeed old hat now but won't be able to upgrade to a new one untill later on in the year so was hoping to find a soulation to keep me going untill then.

Any chance you can return the RTX 5080? That way you get a refund, and use the cash to upgrade your platform, and then buy the GPU later. Due to the black screens.

Unless you want to play ray tracing games or modern triple AAA games, then the 1080 could last 6 months more.

Also, of course you could sell off the motherboard, CPU and RAM to fund a future GPU purchase. Older working premium motherboards, popular CPU's may sell for reasonable prices.

You could get a:-

9800X3D CPU,
B850 Motherboard,
DDR 5 6000 Mhrtz at CL30

For less than what you paid for the RTX 5080. And probably a new case, other items also. New PSU?

The rumoured RX 5080 Ti, with 24 gig of VRAM should be out early 2026.

Look at your use case, you don’t need to go nuts about it.

I game at 3440 x 1440, my 5080 is pegged at 99 - 100% majority of the time… it’s running fine with a 7600 (AM5 CPU).
