Hi, sorry if this is a stupid question, if I connect the gpu hdmi output to my TV will the sound work on my TV?

Yes it will work fine.
You will just need to switch the "default audio device" within windows (control panel >hardware and sound > sound) to the correct one (will likely be called "high definition audio device" or similar).

so all i need is an hdmi cable, connect them up and swap the default audio device over

thanks i already have it connected via dvi and audio out cable, i'm just trying to use less wires, so thought hdmi would allow me to do away with the audio cableExactly
