Hi All

I have just bought an Asus 6950 flashed to a 6970 from MM and pick it up later today. If anyone has experience with these cards what would be a reasonable overclock and memory timing to run with and is there any tricks I need to know
(voltage mods,etc).

I have decided to go to a higher single card rather than my crossfired 5850's - I mainly play Skyrim and got fed up of waiting for AMD to get the 5xxx series crossfire working with the game - a shame as games it works on run so nicely (Just Cause 2 and Crysis run great). Plus the extra VRAM on the 2gb 6970 will help with the HD mod pack I like to run.

Any tips would be appreciated cheers :)

The higher you oc the memory, the lower the core will clock, oc'ing the core gives more gains.

The following is with +20% powerplay:

950MHz/1250MHz @1.175V can be achieved with my 6950>70 CrossFire running on an Asus unlocked shader bios without any further manual voltage increase.

You can also use RBE to set custom clocks/volts.

1GHz/1400MHz @1.265V achieved using AC Extreme coolers although there isn't much gain after 950MHz for me in CrossFire.

(If any of this helps you could give the thread a bump;))

You can copy the following into notepad and save as a .reg file if you want to unlock CCC limits then run the reg file and restart the PC for it to take effect, it can also be added straight after installing Cat's before you restart:

AB, or trix can be used for voltage increase but if it's on the Asus unlocked shader bios, it should be @1.175v anyway(in 3D clocks).

Note that each time you install any driver you need to run the reg file again.

Don't forget to un-install your 5850's>install the 6950>let the legacy drivers install>restart>AMD Cat's.

Thanks TommyBhoy - that's really helpful and good to know a few extra tricks.
I have uninstalled my old card - I use atiman and then removed all amd programs/caps. I have installed the latest drivers from AMD (resisted getting the beta ones until I know the card is good).

I've just had a quick play with my new card - the shaders are already unlocked to 6970 levels :)

I have left the memory at 1375 (which was set by the previous owner) and just used Overdrive to set it to 950 core speed.

A quick play on Skyrim @ Ultra 1080 with Shadows @ medium and there are no artifacts and everything looks good.

To be honest I'm more than happy with that for now - I may press on further later and will store away your tips to try the voltage tweaks at a later date.

Thanks again for your advise

A 7950 at the same levels gets a score of 1379 according to Gibbo's tests at stock so to be that close to such a high level card makes me very happy :)

Your Heaven scores look about right and you've been given all the right info. Enjoy the card, they are beasts.
