Asus 7970 matrix flashed to 280x!

Just flashed my matrix to a 280x version! Yay however only did that for mining purposes and when put below the 7990 the temps were out of control 100c straight away and well too high for my liking!
Took it out for now to either be sold unless someone can come up with a solution?seems the 7990 was the one getting too hot (found it difficult to monitor the gpu temps as no program seemed to like the setup) but got hot and quickly!
I think the 7990 needed a colder feed as the air was already heated by the 7990 just a slot below.
The 7990 will always be my gaming gpu but i wouldnt have minded being able to use both cards or even just for mining!

The problem is the 7990 sucks air from the top of the matrix,that air is already very hot from the back plate,i have a side outlet sucking the air out at the side of both the cards but this will be only removing heated air,you cant put it to input cold air as that disturbs the natural cooling fans of the cards.

I would try to swap the cards around, 7990 on the bottom

Do you have a side exhaust fan?

Yes side exhaust, I'll try swapping them but feel with the matrix taking three slots iit'll block any flow to itself. It'll be a tiny gap between the two. Although it's doing half the job so might work.

Despite my flashed card hashing well and working in heaven and bf4,once swapped around I get nothing on the screen.. Going to try again tomorrow but worried I've knackered something(pretty sure I havent) just worried. Moving a fan to the hdd bays has helped temps a fair bit but soon shoot above 100c then basically goes black screen. At present matrix is useless except in gaming as second gpus.

The 7990 has to be the first card for the setup to waork. I have the same setup but my 7990 is under water so not an issue. Could run a powered riser to get it away from the case. What impromement in hashing did you get after flashing?

They will never work together, way too much heat. Your Matrix going over 100c is very dangerous.
