Asus 7970 top problem

Since upgrading I'm having a few hiccups with my 7970 (not sure it is this)
Sometimes randomly my signal from gpu to monitor goes down everything is still working but no picture and monitor says no signal being received, it just cuts out signal with no warning.
Would say it was my 7970 or something else ?

I have an RMA number from Overclockers, but I don't want to send it off yet without being 100% sure that it is the problem (worried that they won't be able create it) as it is really random I can't recreate the problem.
It just happens at different times last night it did it after running memtest (no errors) booted it back up and it just turned off monitor.

These things I've tried memetest, monitor change, stress test (furmark) want to try it in another motherboard but not sure will it work in a Foxconn black ops 775 board and 500watt psu 4gb ram or old amd setup.

So guys what else can I test ? Will it be worth chancing the RMA ?
Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated.

It is possible that you are experiencing the much-reported "display driver has stopped responding" issue.
Check your Event Logs (in the Control Panel | Administrative Tools). Open the Event Viewer and look for Event ID 4101 in the Windows Logs - "System" folder.

If you can't find any 4101 errors then you're obviously suffering from a different problem and you can ignore this post.

Doh! Oh well.
I suppose you've already tried the obvious stuff like re-seating the card or possibly trying it in another slot (if you have one).

How do you connect to your monitor and what PSU do you have? Is it happening during 3d apps or 2d or both? Also what temperatures are you getting during idle and load?

It happens anytime does not have to do anything for it to happen, like just now went for a pee and a cup of tea came back to black screen.
My PSU is a Corsair HX 850 idle temp are between 24c to 29c gaming temps are 39c-48c and have changed my DVi cable twice.
stress tested it earlier again with this result.

Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings and put when to turn off display to never, see if that fixes it
