I just bought an ASUS 8800GTS i noticed my card idles at around 70c  is this considered hot when i put the fan on 85% with rivatuner it drops to about 64c. now i ran acouple of benchmarks on loop and the temps never went over 76c for some reason.

Now im considering RMA'ing it do you think it worth doing or do these cards actually run hot?

My GTX goes up to 80+ degrees under full load with stock fan settings. They tend to run hot so don't worry too much. With my fan @ 100% it idles around 51 degrees and goes up to 67 degrees @ full load.

I have a thermalright HR-03 on order as that should reduce load temps to 55 degrees or so super silently! :)

They do run hot, but dont seem to break much as a certain X19** series like too, dont worry. ;) (Im not an Nvidia fan boy before anyone starts :p )

So with it being hot as it is there nothing to worry about then?

Thing is thou i noticed some people have 8800GTS's that idle in the 50's.

When I had an 8800GTS is idled at around 64 with 620/980 overclock. Try cleaning your case out if its messy inside.

Case is as tidy as i can get it, thou im getting a new Modular PSU which should be here today or tomoz so i can get rid of cables i don't use.

Just thinking i have an Xcilio PSU which i bought last year it only 500watts but has dual 12v lines and 2 PCi-e connectors just wondering if this psu is still up to the job of running what i have below maybe that could be the problem.

C2D E6300 @ 3Ghz
Gigabyte DS3
2x1gig G.Skill PC6400 @860mhz
Geforce 8800GTS 640mb
2 120mm fans one running from mobo on Ninja rev B
1 80mm Fan
2 Seagate SATA HD's
Audigy 2 ZS

As the temp doesn't get too high, or go up too much, the cooling on the card seems to be fine. I'd give that case a dust if I were you, and check you're getting enough airflow, as it sounds like the case is too warm at idle.

You can check by leaving the side of the case off.

Mine idles about 54, but when its pretty warm about 59-60, highest ive seen underload is about 71-72 i think, 70's a bit warm for idle id say, but if it never goes above 76 underload then it will be fine, my old x1800 XT used to hit about that underload, as long as its not into the high 80's or early 90's then i doubt you need to worry.
