Asus 9600GT problem - no power connector

Hi all,

I am having a problem with a 9600GT: i got it for a small system, thinking after looking on google that it doesn't really need an additional power cable to run at good performance- i was wrong! it's 5 times worse at performance than the on-board video card which is a crappy ATI! (like 10FPS in starcraft 2 in stead of 50)

the PSU is a 350W 80plus that came with the Antec NSK mini case so i am thinking of getting one of those 4 pin molex > 6 pin video to power up the card - will that help?

also - why is everybody saying that these cards don't actually need an additional power and they should work fine without?(ignoring the error message at windows startup!)
is there anything else i could do BIOS wise or settings wise to fix this?

also, when getting the power cable, which one would you recommend: the 2*4 pin molex > 6 pin video or the 1*4 pin molex > 6 pin video should do it?

thank you! - getting a bit desperate here

if it has the extra power connector on the card, then use it, dont know why you are being told otherwise tbh, also a 350w psu is pretty poor, see about upgrading it

Either one will work given that the card only draws 96W and the mainboard supplies 75, I'd get the 2*4 pin though as it is more useful should you put a better GPU in it. 350W is absolutely fine for that card.

Also what is your onboard GPU anyway? If you have an AMD APU it probably is faster than the 9600.

forgot to mention: this is my friends pc, so not buying a new PS soon
well, just put a power cable 4 pin molex into a 6 pin on it from the crappy PSU and it now works fine!!
very strange, many ppl say that with the mb power being enough but it didn't work...

if anybody is interested: this thing got sorted with a power cable molex to 6 pin.
so, although everybody says these cards work the same without the additional 6 pin (so just the power from the mobo), this one didn't and after installing that cable its working fine.

The 350w will be fine. Everyone seems to obsess about needing a powerful PSU, even for systems with a fairly low power draw, such as a 95w? CPU and <100w GPU.
