I've just been given an old computer which and would like to increase the memory from the 256MB it currently has.

I've looked up the motherboard, which is an Asus A7V333, and have found some reviews of it which mention that it takes DDR333 PC2700 ram. I have tried to get the manual from the Asus site but it just times out so I've not been able to, though I have managed to find a memory supplement to the manual which tells me that the board can take up to 2GB of PC2700.

I have had a look on the popular auction site and found that there is a fair amount of DDR333 PC2700 ram on there, but I'm a bit confused, a lot of the auctions mention that the stick of ram are 184 pin... the memory supplement I have got says the board needs 168pin stick. Is this right??? If so I'm assuming the 184 pin sticks won't fit.

Which leaves me a bit of a problem of where I might be able to get some of the right memory...as I guess no shops etc would have any seeing as it is rather out of date now!!!

The mobo is a strange one in the fact its for AMD CPU's but has a 266FSB and uses 333mhz for the Memory, it uses normal DDR333 (PC2700), you can easily overclock the FSB to get both in SYNC 1:1 at 333mhz, but remove stock heatsink and clean up the stock pink bubblegum goo and apply Artic Silver 5 to it.

" DDR SDRAM memory has 184 pins, where as SDRAM has 168 pins "

BTW Memory is also backward compat, DDR400 (PC3200) will run at 266mhz and 333mhz aswell as stock 400mhz but not all Mobos like all makes of Memory anyhow.

Thanks for the help, I did wonder if the memory supplement was wrong cos i did seem weird that I couldn't find any memory sticks the right size. I'll have to head off to the bay to try to find some bargains!!!
