Asus A8N-E checksum error

Had to reboot my PC last night and when doing so it beeped several times and came up with the CMOS checksum error, also saying that my CPU and Chipset fans were not spinning (I took the side off my case and they clearly were spinning). I turned it off for a few seconds, tried again and voila, it worked.

Now, I rebooted again this evening and it did it again, but this time I couldnt even access the BIOS. So I turned it off, waited for a few minutes, tried again and it was still doing it. So I removed the battery and changed the jumper to clear the CMOS (I remembered to change it back again dont worry) but its still doing the same thing. There's a checksum error and it thinks the fans aren't spinning when they are. I can skip the error and get into Windows (though ASUS probe still thinks the fans arent working). I've tried flashing the bios but still no luck, the error persists.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like some sort of faulty sensor on the motherboard to me, either that or a BIOS/CMOS issue, possibly caused by dodgy battery or hardware.

There is an option for that in the BIOS, you're right. Unfortunately I cant even get into the BIOS to turn it off.

So I'm guessing the chip that stores the BIOS has corrupted or something. Though the funny thing is, I can use the AsusUpdate tool in Windows to check the BIOS information and it all appears correct.
