hi i brought a ASUS A8R-MVP motherboard from ocuk about a week ago and it had on board sound problems (the drivers wouldnt install) so i sent it back for testing and they told me the on board sound was knackered so they gave me a new one. So i came home and put it in and everything works fine (ethernet drivers etc) apart from the damn on board sound.
Anyway i was wondering if anyone else has got this motherboard and had the same problems. i might take it back and exchange it for a new board but i tried here first because its a pain to take apart (well it isnt really im just too lazy to do it :D )
if i did decide to exchange it then what mobo would be compatible with a AMD 64 3200+ cpu and ASUS EAX1300PRO graphics card
ASUS A8R-MVP motherboard (one down)
ASUS EAX1300PRO graphics card (top one)
thanks :D

So this is two of two times that the onboard sound hasnt worked right? It sounds like you're doing something wrong tbh. Have you got the jumpers set correctly?

Got that motherboard here, i think its a cracker, much better than that DFi ***** i had, working great, mind you im not using the onboard sound as ive got a sound card in there, ill give it a go though see if my onboard sound works ok though. :)

EDIT: Just tried the onboard sound, works perfect for me on me 5.1 speakers.

well that may be the problem im using 2.0 speakers (see link above) and it may not support them

It will support 2.0 speakers. Have you installed the audio drivers? Have you selected between rear of case audio using jumpers?

When you Enabled the HD in the BIOS, did you get the found new hardware jobbie when yer PC booted up, all you got a do is cancel that, and bang in the motherboard CD, then the Soundmax drivers will appear on the CD to be installed, when i clicked on the Soundmax drivers to install them the installshield wizard that pops up in the centre of the screen was there for a canny bit, id actually thought it had crashed, but as i was just about to cancel it it started, and installed, and worked fine.

I've got this mobo and I had a huge problem with the budled drivers. So I uninstalled em and are just using the XP default drivers now :) 2.0 speakers and works fine.
