Hopefully someone can answer a couple of questions regarding AI Suite 3 with regard to CPU fan control & overclocking. I recently installed the software because it looked useful for easily checking CPU temp & fan speed with the ability to modify settings without entering BIOS. The first thing I ran was the Fan Xpert 3 tuner, as a result it started to run the CPU fan at full speed, the table showing fan speed against voltage had 2139 rpm at 0v. To solve the problem I uninstalled then reinstalled AI Suite but have not run fan tuner. Why does AI suite mess the CPU fan speeds up ? The other oddity with AI Suite is that it shows the CPU overclocked by 0.8% running a 3.9mhz, BIOS says its running at 3.5mhz, the chip is an i5 4690K on an ASUS Z97A mobo, which value would be correct, BIOS or AI Suite ?
I would be grateful if someone could answer the questions.

Try using the latest version of AI Suite, which I think is ASUS_AI_Suite_3_V3.00.60. Older versions may behave strangely with newer versions of Windows 10.

Are your fans four pin or three pin? Try swapping between smart mode and RPM mode to see if that works better.

Thanks for the prompt reply, I assume the version of AI Suite is the latest, on the ASUS website I had to enter the mobo model & there was only one version listed. The fans are 4 pin 12v PWM and its only the CPU fan that gets messed up by Fan xpert 3.

Regarding the auto OC % mine on a 9600K at 4.8 shows a 29% OC, so that 0.8% doesn't sound right to me.

A tip for the auto OC is it goes off your cooler score which you can run in bios a few times until you're happy with the score being accurate. Once you have a score you're happy with, turn off the Update cooler score setting in bios to set it at a solid rate. Otherwise it can up the cooler score and OC it even more automatically to unstable rates.

I basically don't trust any of the AI Suite auto settings apart from auto OC with a well tested and fixed cooler score.

Thanks for the info, I read my first post and realised the OC percentage was wrong it should have been 8% not 0.8%, I'll give the cooler score tip a go, and see what happens.

It started with problems detecting the CPU_Fan on boot, despite there being a definite fan connected, and running at full speed. I kept having to go in and redo all the fan settings, change the modes, and all sorts of messing every single time I booted, as it would never save the changes to profile.
Eventually I had to reflash the BIOS and star afresh, as we just couldn't figure out what it was doing.

Given up and gone back to manual fan controller.

Downloaded the latest version of AI Suite, ran Fan Xpert 3 and the CPU fan went to full speed, the table showing voltage/fan speed shows 0v/2139rpm, I am a little disappointed with the results. The next step I guess is to reinstall it but not run the fan tuner. I did notice that the CPU temp & fan speed were up and down like a yo-yo (not by vast amounts, a degree either way and 10 to 100 rpm) before running Fan Xpert 3, is that normal ?
 
After messing around with AI Suite 3 for the last couple of days I have decided to uninstall it because no matter what I do every time I run fan xpert 3 it messes up my CPU fan control. I would just like to thank everyone who replied for their help.

Just out of interest did you check what your fan settings were in BIOS for the CPU fan? I'm guessing if you had set this to use manual settings there could be a conflict between BIOS and FanXpert? I've used FanXpert with my last two motherboards (Z77 & X470) without issue.

Just had a look at the fans in BIOS, all the fans are set to standard, the CPU fan has PWM selected & the four case fans have DC selected. All the fans have CPU as the control source. This configuration is how it was set when I received the computer.

I'll give it a try, if I set the CPU fan to DC wont that stop it adjusting its speed when the CPU gets hotter ? I'm not sure what the difference is between PWM & DC.

No, it will just behave like a standard 3-pin voltage-controlled fan. The speeds will be approximate, but still good enough for reasonable accuracy, ie within about 50rpm.
PWM just uses less power and allows the fan to spin at lower RPMs.

Thanks for explaining the difference, I set all fans to DC in BIOS, reinstalled AI Suite 3 and ran the fan tuner which worked, now all the fans are listed with graphs. I have made a few tweaks, unchecked the auto fan stop & critical temp at 75 degrees, lowered the temp slightly that the fans ramp up to full speed. I have noticed that the tuner has set the fans to smart mode, CPU temp is 34 degrees, CPU fan speed is 584rpm, the other case fans are around 600rpm. I have 4 case fans but only 3 show up in AI Suite 3, the CPU Opt fan isn't shown but is listed in BIOS. Also I didn't know that the CPU frequency goes up and down from 800mhz up to 3.9ghz, constantly changing (the BIOS says the CPU frequency is 3.5ghz.
