Hi all, I have re-flashed the card bios, eveything else is up to date, yet what ever I do i can't get the cards cooling fan to spin...

Looks like I will have to RMA it with OcUK, however I had a really bad RMA experiance with them before so I would liek to try and avoid it at all costs

Any ideas anyone? I don't feel comfortable trying to install a 3rd party cooler

Thanks for any help

got 2nd gfx card? if so install that in primary slot and reflash the original bios (which i hope you backed up first!) by choosing to flash the bios with atiflash by selecting 2nd pci-e slot

no sorry I wrote that in the wrong order :S

I mean it broke, and I have tried everyting possible, it broke before i tried re-installing the drivers

i guess I will have to stomach the loss then lol. I'll go mad if they send it back to me again and tell me its fine though, its like £10 p&p each way...

yeha i had that thought earlier.. It will cost me £10, maybe £20 if it fails inspection for me to send it back, or i'll be paying £100 on top of refund for another gpu...

Now to find a good third party cooler :)

I returned a 4870 last week for the same reason, fan tried spinning up and couldn't get going. RMA and they replaced it.

There's a fair old wait on the return checking, took over a week so if you're looking for aftermarket cooling at some point might be worth a try but I refuse to accept faulty items, you never know what caused the original fault. Might have been dropped etc but it could as easily just be the stock as it seems a bit too common.

Arctic Cooling Accelero twin Turbo is a good bet (or the Thermalrite T-Rad2, but that needs seperate fans too), that and some Zalman VGA Ram sinks and some Akasa Thermal Adhesive Tape (cause the supplied stuff is rubbish) - and you may need some Arcticlean to clean everything with first!
