Hi All,

I own the thread mentioned Mobo, and I haver an I3-6100.

I'm looking to upgrade to say a i5-8400. Will it work on this mobo I know the socket is 1151 but it doesn't seem to appear to be compatible when i googled so made me worry.

If not, would it be worth me getting a ryzen and a new mobo for that?

Thanks in advance,
Retro

If you look at the cpu support list for your motherboard on Asus website here, you will see that the board is only for 6000 and 7000 series cpu's which means that the fastest cpu that your board can take is the i7 7700k. One of those would be a significant upgrade from a i3 6100 and you wouldn't have to buy a new motherboard (possibly memory as well if you went Ryzen as you need fast memory to get the best out of them). You wouldn't be able to overclock a 7700k as you need a Z series motherboard for that but it would boost to 4.2Ghz plus you gain a extra pair of cores and threads (7700k 4 cores/8 threads, 6100 2 cores/4 threads). You will need bios version 0501 or higher for a 7700k (or any other 7000 series cpu) so if you need to update the bios do it with the 6100 still installed.
