Hi Im looking at a new PC build specifically for audio and was planning on getting an Asus B360 plus motherboard and possibly a i9 9900k CPU. Now I know that the B360 isnt the best motherboard out there but I still need a PCI slot for an RME HDSP soundcard which is pretty essential. It states on the Asus site that the i9 is supported (with latest bios) but would I be getting the full benefit of the i9 in this board or would I be just as well getting say an i7 9700k? The benchmarking doesnt seem that different and I sure the benchmark specs don't translate into audio performance either...
Thanks for any help!
cheers
Phil

I seem to remember seeing a motherboard chipset comparison recently between B360 and Z370/Z390 boards and there was no performance difference whatsoever. There is probably differences between the power delivery and VRM cooling/performance but as you cant overclock on that board I cant see it causing you any issues.

What @ZXSpectrum said.
In addition as well as not being able to overclock, the weaker vrms may limit the boost clocks (ie the 9900k may not be able to boost as high/as long/as frequently as another 9900k on a z390 board)

It might be worth looking at PCI-PCIE adapter for your RME HDSP card and checking on the audio forums to see if anyone else has had success using one. It may give you a better solution and be able to run your 9900K with a bit of an overclock :)

Thanks for the info! I am looking into the PCI adaptors but it looks like it may be tricky to make the RME card and adaptor fit in a standard case..

I seem to remember a little external enclosure that you could buy and run a little cable through the rear of your case to plug into a PCIe slot. Not the most elegant but if it gets you out of a spot and gives you a better solution then it all helps. :)

Any reason your not considering a ryzen 3700x or 3900x?
Its just that intel is tried and tested for audio- im sure a Ryzen would be fine too. I think I read somewhere that they werent as good for low latencies and the intel but I don't know what the latest ones are like!

@PhilMcB it was the ryzen 2000 series that had issues with dpc latencies. The 3000 series are much better iirc. Though i suggest you do some research on the parts

Intel still better at audio, due to single core speed .
If your able to use newer software and building multiple track layers, they do use a core per layer but still dependant on speed. More software then hardware at fault .
9600k and overclock it . Or wait till mid May for newest intel . Priced at Ryzen 3000 levels .

Only times par 1080p gaming were intel leads, Prem Pro and Audio suites
