hello,

I would like to upgrade my Asus a7J cpu but i aint got a clue! as to which one to get. Theres just too many variations!

My laptop has got a T2400 1.83 Intel core Duo Centrino, i guess?. Whats is the top cpu that i can have? any ideas?

I believe mine is a 667mhz but i dont know which socket it is or what mobo?

I was looking at the T2600 2.16ghz for about £70, is that any good?

Thanks for any info!

Alex

Upgrading a CPU in a laptop often isn't possible... personally, it's not something I would do (taking apart the entire laptop) for a few extra Mhz. The T2400 and the T2600 aren't dissimilar in performance, so unless you're playing lots CPU limited games (unliked in a laptop, most games are graphics limited) then the only outcome is going to be a lot of hassle and possibly a reduced battery life. :o

thanks Daz for the reply,

The Asus cost me £1200 at the time and i've been doing a lot of 3d rendering and handling big 3d scenes. As this baby is 3 years old!, i've noticed how slow it is for anything other than web surfing.

So far i've upgraded the memory (no easy task i tell you) and i could change the HDD to try and get some more performance.

Cheers,
