Hi all

I am looking to buy my first fairly high end 27" monitor and have been looking at these three:-

DELL

ASUS
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-043-AS

DGM
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-003-DG

Main use is for watching vids/TV and gaming.

Any thoughts on the above? Or perhaps some other recommendation?

Also - i only have a Radeon HD 6900 which i am hoping is good enough for these high res monitors.

Many thanks

The DGM is a world away from high end. If you can grab one when its on offer for £300 its worth a gamble perhaps, but not at the price it is now. It's a budget monitor really. Personally I'm a dell fan

i picked up a dgm and had to replace one due to being faulty, thnkfully the replacment was fine but like wunkley said it is a budget monitor that was well worth the £300 i paid for it but for £400 i would look else where like the dell

The Dell would probably be the best bet out of those but have major issues with backlight bleed. I just got the Asus yesterday and it has been great with no dead pixels and practically no backlight bleed. Looks gorgeous as well. :D
Not sure how Asus are with warranty though.

Thanks all

OK - the DGM is out of the running. Am leaning toward the Dell.

Whats this "Backlight bleed" business - for monitors this expensive why is this even a problem?

It is when you get uneven backlight and light leaks out, which means that you can't get a true black on the LCD.

I was actually also interested in getting the Dell. I've read it is a great monitor however one review complained about issues with input lag with gaming.

Does anyone with one have any views?

You say the dell is the best out the 3 and then you say you got the Asus monitor . that really don't make sense , surly you wold of said the Asus is the best out the 3 ?

Not forgetting the crosshatching

hmmm

seems like the Dell has more "potential issues" than the Asus

plus the Asus has faster response times

am now leaning toward the Asus

Google is your friend , do what I'm doing don't rush into it i was all set for the Dell until i read user reviews from many websites and even though Dell customer service is very good exchanging there monitors over , it might take you the first attempt , or it could take 7 attempts .

the only issue i have with Getting the Asus is maybe a little back light bleed .

the asus is a bit expensive from here so sorry to overclockers but im not going to pay £63 more than what others are selling it for .

I was however going to get the dell from here as its the same price as everywhere near enough.

I wil ltake my chances with the Asus now as reviews and quality is fantastic and Of course it overclocks to 85HZ and that makes a world of difference .

Do these monitors come in different "revisions" like mobos?

Might these cheaper ones be old stock and therefore older versions? I say this because one site specifically had dates next to the model number (e.g. Sept 2012).

From the reviews I have read the Dell seems to be better than the Asus however it has major issues with backlight bleed and cross hatching. I decided to get the Asus as I stood a better chance of getting a good one compared to the Dell.

If you do decide to get the Asus make sure you research pluse-width modulation (PWM) as this has caused headaches for some people.

I got my dell today, no back light bleed problems or response time issues when gaming.

Very happy with the monitor.

Re ASUS

I'll only know if i'm affected by the PWN when (if) i get one.

Is it easy to overclock and if so does it have any bad effects - like making chance of headaches worse or shorten life of monitor?

thanks

If you can set it to 85Hz rather than 60Hz then when you use vsync in games your fps limit becomes 85fps rather than 60fps.

Wow never new that that is a definite plus for the asus monitor.
I wonder if the asus mx299q can be overclocked?
