Hi there!

Last saturday I went out and bought a 4870, I was going for the Sapphire card but I thought oh well for 5 Euro's more I'm going for the Asus model. ON THE PICTURE it did look like it had about the same cooler as the Sapphire one and that it included a game. When I got home I got it out of the box and it did contain NO game and another cooler then the one in the pictures, in fact it looks like this one:

Has anyone here have the same thing? I'm not really happy as the cooler output's a lot of (hot)air and goes against my 120mm sidefan. Do you guys reckon the cooler is better then the 'normal' dual slot cooler, if it isn't, can/should I put a new dual slot cooler on it?

It's supposed to be better and a touch quieter.

I'd probably be perfectly happy with it.

Regarding temperatures - just make sure your case airflow's good and you should be fine. :)

Could that 120mm fan be set as an intake to supply the card with cool air? Just make sure to place a filter over it so it doesn't throw dust all over the card. :D

As for the game - contact the store and explain that there was no game bundled, they may be able to get one for you!

Hi gt_junkie!

It's like this the cold air get's blown over the heatsink of the gfx chipset and then exists at the side of the cooler towards my side intake fan so you get the situation that two air streams collide.

I was thinking the same thing you said about the cooler that it's supposed to be better so I'll just stick with this card then. Just not totally happy about the two airflow's colliding.
Thanks for your reply :)

No problem Vir!

Looking at the layout of your case i'd possibly even consider maintaining smooth airflow by removing the side panels 120mm fan.

Cases like the akasa eclipse (known for its excellent thermal performance) cope perfectly well with a single 120mm intake and one other 120mm exhaust.

The locations of these in your case are identical to the eclipse too which is a good start.

Is there any way you could add something like a scythe kama bay (if you have 3x 5.25" bays free you will have space) as that will do the following:

- Increase incoming cool air.
- Maintain smooth airflow.
- Provide positive pressure in the case meaning you can control dust levels in the case through the use of filters.

If that's your cooler then you have an updated model.
The original EAH4870 fan is utter garbage and looks nothing like that.

i had the same problem did not like the cooler then i isntalled it and the artifacts was all over the screen games etc.. so i chantged it for 1 gig version with normal cooler that covers the ram sinks
