HI
I have an Asus 1000 and was thinking about installing windows 7, is there anything I should do or need to upgrade?

It’s been running fine on XP but now I have some time to use it with windows 7. The only time I get to look at windows 7 is on a virtual PC so whould be good to use it more ready for when i can get it on my main PC

When I did this on my 1000HE I was a little surprised to see the drive already partitioned in two (not including the recovery partitions) so a head start for slapping in a new OS.

When installing there's a tip, if I remember correctly, to turn off the quick boot option in the BIOS before you start, just turn it on again later. Boot from a prepared USB stick or external dvd drive and away you go.

Once installed I networked to my main PC and shared it's dvd drive to install the Asus drivers. I've since updated audio, wireless and smart-pad drivers and even the BIOS earlier on today (using XP as it had the Asus update tool installed already).

It works well for me with 1Gb but maybe an upgrade to 2Gb SODIMM (200 pin) might give it a little boost depending on what you do.

No problems here. Install the Asus tools/drivers from CD or USB and it'll be fine.
Very easy setup all in though. Haven't tried the camera yet but assume it'll be picked up in Skype or whatever. The driver is installed anyway.

[Edit - Oops. Must've updated drivers via EEE forum links. Double checked the Asus CD but files are not compatible with 7. I can't change the compatibilty mode over the network either but maybe they'd work if copied to USB.]
