I have an ASUS F3jv, the manufacturer states the max memory is 2GB (1GB x2).
The mobo chipset is intel 945PM, and intel states the max memory support is 4GB. They say the BIOS has to support extended memory management(or something like that).
I have scoured the internet, and there is little out there regarding whether I can plug 2x2GB in. I have found that someone plugged a 2GB in with the original 1GB memory, but found windows was only reporting 2.5GB. I want to try it but its an expensive experiment to buy 4GB only to find it doesn't work.
Is there anyone out there running 4GB on this machine.
Is it possible to flash the BIOS with another manufacturers BIOS to get 4GB support (bios is AMIBIOS v207), or is this the easiest way to make a tablemat out of my lappy?
UPDATE:
Ok just had another look around the net, seems like a common problem with 945PM mobos, if your BIOS doesn't support 4GB then you are screwed. Apparently it shows 3GB, but there are associated problems like black screens and no boot up. Oh well
