hi,

think the cpu is getting old as since i put win7 on every now and then the whole system freezes for around 30 secs then i can hear the system starting up which i think is from the cpu area of the laptop!

But if it needs new cpu i have never upgraded a laptop cpu and the asus site doesn't help me at all in what i can go and look for :(

please any help on what cpu to buy would be awesome

thanks

There are plenty of options to explore before changing the CPU. Why do you think the CPU is at fault? Simply because you can hear the fans spin up? CPU fans do this and yours will almost certainly have some form of variable fan RPM ability in the BIOS.

A better description of the fault would also help. Can you replicate the fault? And when you say the system freezes does that mean it's unresponsive and just 'hangs' then reboots? Or does it just freeze then become responsive again? Describe exactly what you're doing when the fault occurs and exactly what the laptop does from that point.

When you get a laptop it comes with an OS and all of the appropriate drivers.

As you have installed a new OS, is it possible that you no longer have all of the appropriate drivers installed?

yeah windows 7 installed all the drivers and doesn't seam to be anything missing, also when it freezes sometimes im in world of warcraft game and it everything freezes and after 20-35 secs i hear a fan start up and it all un freezes and then i can carry on gaming.

it sometimes does the exact same thing if on a web browser mainly with facebook games.

sorry for lack of info im not very pc tech :(

Hmm my friend had a similar issue with his asus laptop. He opened it up and cleaned all of the fans and around the heatsink area as it was very clogged up with muck and his issues were sorted after that

Likely overheating and throttling. Clean heatsink out.

You'll need to reapply TIM if you take out the entire assembly.

This was my thinking. That's why I asked him to check to the temps.

Laptop heatsinks always get clogged with dust. It comes off like a long strip of loft insulation. Makes the CPU toasty!

Your fan will be spinning 100% too compensate for the extra heat.

P.S. Top tip: Blow from the outside in on the heatsink. Treat it like an harmonica and the dust will fly everywhere!
