Asus g751jy - dead battery.. Options?

I have a Asus g751jy laptop with a completely dead battery.
No problem I thought, I don't mind using it plugged in a the time.

However, it just dies after a random amount of time, sometimes seconds, sometimes quite a while.

Is this something that happens when a battery dies? Random sleeping? Or is it likely a further fault?

Can I just remove the battery and use it or do I have to source one? Doesn't look like oem is available any more.

This is very annoying as it's still a great laptop

If you remove the back panel you should be able to unplug the battery and see how it works with it disconnected.

You can get an OEM battery from here. I have used them before a few times without issues including a battery for a 751...

Thanks so much. I was looking for a reliable 3rd party seller. Amazon looked like a lottery! Looks like it's a common issue. Including the going into standby. Looks like I'll be performing surgery! Eek
 
Definitely get that old battery out. It shouldn't really have any bearing when you use it on the mains however so I wonder if the bios is trying to override something?
