ASUS GENE-V offset issues

Hi, just wondering if anyone else has had issues while using this board and offset voltages?

I bought mine to replace a faulty Z68 GENE-Z. I had previously tested stable voltages for my 2700k, I found I need 1.368v for 4.8Ghz and 1.44v for 5Ghz.

If I leave voltage to auto and set my turbo to 48 or 50 CPU-Z is reporting 1.58v - A little on the high side. I attempted to lower this using a negative offset. I can't even boot into Windows with -0.005v so getting my voltage down to where I need it seems like an impossible task. I can set these voltages manually and everything works as expected with High LLC. I'd really like to get the offset working correctly so I'm not pumping a fixed voltage through the CPU 24/7.

Has anyone else had similar problems?

I've been through all the pages in the BIOS. Everything is set up correctly, I have disabled C states, enabled PLL overvoltage not that I needed it with my GENE-Z. I'm familiar enough with all the settings I just can't get my head around why the offset doesn't work and gives me an instant BSOD.
 
what happens if you just set cpu multi to 48 and leave turbo on auto? normally you set cpu voltage to offset then add voltage +
 
If Turbo Ratio is set to 'by all cores' and I enter 48 my voltage ends up around 1.5v.

I only really need 1.368v for 4.8Ghz so I would need to use around -0.125 to get there. Trouble is any negative value gives me a BSOD.
 
last time I used offset on asus I had to set cpu v to offset mode then adjust whats needed with the offset amount and it was normally +

also the level of llc will affect total load voltage so try one/two clicks lower llc

if I were you id start at 4.5ghz and work out how much offset and what level llc you need and go from there

don't leave llc on auto

I've tried all of the various LLC settings from medium to ultra high, it's made very little difference to load voltage. The only noticeable difference is vdroop.

LLC on my GENE-Z as you described changed my load voltage quite significantly, depending on which setting I used.

This has really got me scratching my head :confused:
 
using latest bios? tried reflashing the same bios again,sometimes the settings wont stick till you do that

load optimised defaults in the bios and start over

seems strange

I re-flashed with the latest bios but still having the same issues..

It looks like offset mode is broken. Had the same problem with the stock bios out of the box. Had hoped an update would help but seems not :(

My BCLK is sitting at 100 flat. And I've been through everything in the BIOS at least twice.

Did you have a similar problem Nickolp1974?

Hehe already done. It's about the only choice I have to get my clocks back.

4.8Ghz with 1.370v done some testing last night. Rebuilt my loop last weekend and I'm sitting around 60c.

I guess I'll stick with this and create a profile for 5Ghz-5.2Ghz for the occasional bench.
 
still would be good to get it working,works fine for me at 4.8ghz/1600mhz 0.9v idle(gigabyte board)

I never had so much problems with offset as on Maximus 5 Gene
Tried Everything and i could not get it stable.
Atm i just run 1.45v constant and have all energy saving and C states things on.
When cpu is idle it drops to 1800mhz and 17-20c.
I got Intel extended warranty on my cpu so i dont care if it fries :P.
 
Hmm strange indeed. I'm glad it's not just me having problems.

I guess the GENE-V is somewhat flawed for SB. Those with IB CPU's seem to be fine with offset voltages. I can't find many using this board with a SB CPU..

I don't think he found a reasonable solution and opted to stick 1.56v through it as a manual voltage. Certainly not something I'm willing to do with mine.
 
Probably not related, but I remember having to select an option in the CPU power phase control (under DIGI+ Power Control) in order for my Z68 GENE-Z and 2700K to work with offset, I chose optimized.
