Asus GFX RMA?

Looks like my trusty old Asus x800xt PCI-E is acting up. The fan is spinning irregular. Some times it will be fine for days but then it wont spinn at all. Its fine for 2D as it hovers around 70c but if i pop into a game like CS:S after about 5 mins the card hits 110c I think before It carshes :( I can't really see a fix for this unless I get a new fan and to be honest The card is that old i don't think it's worth the investment.

If I send the card back to Asus and the fault doesn't occure during testing are they just going to send it back to me with a bill?

If they can't replace it with new card or repair the current fan. Which I am doubtful about them having parts stock with a card of this age. Does anyone have any idea what they are likely to send me instead?

I wouldn't like anything less powerfull than I have now regardless of features. I game at either 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 with AA and AF as high as settings alow and this card just manages about everything I play currently. Btw I also need duel DVI on the card. Any thoughts on what they may offer me?

any guidence over the best way to deal with Asus would be good too. this card was actually a replacement for my origonal Asus x800xl which went **** up. Fan stopped spinning on that too as it happens, but died all together. It took ages to get the RMA sorted on that ocasion and I was actually without a working pc for over 2 months. Thankfully I now have another backup system.

Also If anyone could possibly sujest any fixes to this to save me the bother that would save me a lot of crap :)

Cheers TMS

Their RMA's still take 4 to 8 weeks... :(
If you want to send it to them, just try to give them as much info as possible explaining the problem I guess, ie. a pic of a program that reads the temp showing it's way too hot, or showing a bsod or crash... Also write detailed into when and how it happens, so they can easely do the same to cause the problems.

I dunno if you still have retailer warranty but if you do try that first, they seem to be a lot faster in handling RMA's, just make sure to say not to send it to Asus yet before asking you if they can't find a fault....

screenshot! excelent didnt think of that. yeah great idea grab a screeny of it running at 71c as it now is. and on an underclocked card too running 240/240 from 500/500 in 2d.
