Asus internal/external video switching ?

I'm having no end of trouble with an Asus ROG Strix Z690-A Gaming WIFI D4. On my second mb now. One question struck me though, if you have a processor with built in video does it switch automatically to an installed card or do you have to chose your output in the bios ??

If you only have one monitor they normally switch to whatever the the cable is plugged into. I remember trying this with a ryzen 2400g and an nvidia card installed in the machine. I could unplug from one to the other and it would continue to show the same output .

Im not sure out what would happen if you had 2 displays, w plugged into gpu and the other to the motherboard. I think it would take its lead from the bios settings.
