Behind you... Naked!
I am knocking up a PC for my father in law and I decided to sort this one out since its a fairly decent setup.

Its been running flawlessly but with Linux, and he wants XP as thats all he knows and so I tried to throw XP onto it, but it moaned about the system not having APIC.

It does. Its also enabled too!

I have had a play about with a number of options and I am really stuck?

Vista and Win7 both simlpy offer me a blacnk screen, while XP32 and 64 both tell me about the issue.

I have not tried F7 yet - I dont want to either for obvious reasons.

The only think that I can think of, is that the bloody thing will perhaps need a BIOS update, however on checking the latest BIOS is 1701 and like a typical fany that I am, I seem to have 1804 installed... Where the hell did I get that from? And anyway, you cannot go backwards with the updates so thats annoying.

Anyway, anyone have any ideas what I can do?

Thanks.

Ok, the updates lied to me.
I can go backwards

I have gone back a number of updates ( Maybe that 1804 one allowed it? )

Anyway, I have gone back a few versions, and one by one I have updated it all the way to the official 1701 ( which I am currently on ) but the APIC message still keeps coming up?

I have installed Linux again and its fine. It says that APIC is fine, but Windows wont play ball?

I think I will just accept that there is an issue that I cannot get past and that I iwll simply use this board for Linux only?

And people wonder why I hate Asus boards
