Hi guys,

I did my first build around christmas, and it is a fx-8350 with a Asus M5A78L-M/USB3. I know the M5A78L is a bit weak but it was a rush-buy and I wanted the ease of immediate onboard HDMI etc.

I now have a sapphire 7850 too, and I want to crossfire it with a second one.

Being a tightwad, I was thinking of getting the Asus M5A97 LE R2.0, because it is on offer. Will this be able to properly crossfire two 7850s?

I partly want this board because of it's 6gb/s sata, and i am going to get an SSD.

Thanks,

Chris

You will be better of with a board that runs both slots at the same speed,.

The one you mention says,

1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (blue)
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (x4 mode, black)

2 x PCIe 2.0 x1
2 x PCI

A board based on the 990 chipset will be 8X/8X or even 16X/16X actually.

Go with a 990x or a 990fx board with more than 4+1 power phasing. I have tested an 8150 and 8350 on both M5A97 LE R2.0 and M5A78L-M/USB3. Both board's VRMs overheated and either throttled the CPU or delivered unstable power even at stock under load.

Definitely spend a bit more on the motherboard.

Either one of these are much better choices:

1 x MSI 990XA-GD55 AMD 990X Chipset (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £79.99
Total : £181.38 (includes shipping : £9.50).
