Guys,

I currently have the striker II Extreme(790i Ultra) which at the moment is so unstable its just a complete joke.

No Problem found out it was my q6600 with silly temps was causing the problem.

But i was thinking of getting the Asus Maximus Extreme for several reasons.

1) I can simply connect my water cooling as it uses the same fusion block as the striker II extreme

2) As it is a x38 chipset and not 790i Ultra I should not encounter any stability problems?

Please tell me if i am right in assuming this as I really did want sli but it looks like i will be getting a 9800 gx2 if i get the x38 board.

So do you think the Asus Maximus Extreme is a stable board for overclocking my q6600 ?????????

i have the maximus formula x38 on my q6600 and it's got me 24/7 stable at 3.8GHz with 1.45v - the maximus range are great boards unlike the nforce intel boards.

i'd recommend them to anybody looking for easy overclocks and a very stable board, but if you're not going to use crossfire there's plenty of P35 boards which are just as good also and cheaper.

i have the maximus formula x38. Much better than any of the nvidia boards i've had. I don't use two cards so getting this board might have been a waste, but i got it becasue it seemed to be a very stable board and it is. Much faster than any nvidia board i've had, but i've never had a 790i so i can't comment on if it's better.

It's madness to think of buying a 9800GX2 or two ati cards now. There are new cards out in les than a month from both ati and nvidia, don't buy graphics now.

mate whats the Sapphire HD3870 like? now that i cant get sli what is 2 of these like compared to nvidias gx2

i've had the 3870 in crossfire on the maximus and it was pretty good (faster than my single GTX was for sure) even though i've since sold 1 card as i'm not really gaming much right now.

but yeh i'd wait for the new cards as well tbh.

my vid is 1.2625

as far as bios, keep NB and FSBT aligned somewhat ..ie increase/decrease both at the same time ...maximus board is good but has some quirks like DFI boards ....once dialled in it's gravy.

play with the AI Twister ....there's no right or wrong all our components are different so you just have to experiment.
