Hi, I've been prepping an older system to give to someone in the family when powering on I'm getting no display.

This PC was in use until about a month ago where I upgraded their PC with my 7700k. Before I moved the parts to a new case, I did a clean install of Win 10 on this Asus Maximus V Gene + 3570k so everything was working fine.

I installed this motherboard + CPU into a new case with some other spare parts. The only this missing was a PSU. This week I picked up a PSU for this build and upon installing this and turning it on, everything powers up but I'm not getting no signal on my monitor.

The motherboard is lighting up as expected, all fans including CPU + GPU fans are starting up but still no display. I've tried both the HDMI + DispalyPort and have also tried the onboard HDMI + DispalyPort.

The GPU (MSI GTX 1060 6GB) has been tested and confirmed as working in my main rig. I've also tried my RTX 3080 in this build with the same result. Both PCIE slots have been tested with the same results on both.

I've also tried hooking up my main PC's PSU to this build, and again, it powers on with no display. Have also hooked up this new PSU (Corsair TX650M) to my main PC and all works as expected.

Pressing the clear cmos button doesn't appear to help at all.

Finally, I've taken the MB out of the case and placed it on the motherboard box, with just the CPU\Cooler\RAM and GPU plugged in but still getting no display. I've also removed the CPU and inspected the pins (no dirt and no pins are bent on the MB).

As a bit of extra information, the Q-Code showing on the motherboard is 30

From the Manual:

30 Reserved for ASL (see ASL Status Codes section below)

ACPI/ASL Checkpoints

Code Description
0x01 System is entering S1 sleep state
0x02 System is entering S2 sleep state
0x03 System is entering S3 sleep state
0x04 System is entering S4 sleep state
0x05 System is entering S5 sleep state
0x10 System is waking up from the S1 sleep state
0x20 System is waking up from the S2 sleep state
0x30 System is waking up from the S3 sleep state
0x40 System is waking up from the S4 sleep state
0xAC System has transitioned into ACPI mode. Interrupt controller is in PIC mode.
0xAA System has transitioned into ACPI mode. Interrupt controller is in APIC mode.

Assuming this code 30 relates to "0x30 System is waking up from the S3 sleep state"? Any ideas what to do from here?

Just seems strange that it was working perfectly and has just been sitting there waiting for a new PSU and now it's not working. Any help getting this working again is appreciated.

Turns out of you hold the Asus link button on this MB for a few seconds it does a bios flashback. Appears to have updated successfully to the most current bios for this board but still getting the q-code 30 and no display.

This is a stab in the dark but it could be worth checking to see if your 1060 might need a firmware update to work with certain monitors.

Thanks for the info, might give it a try at the weekend. However I suspect the MB is bricked at this point as it should work from the onboard HDMI \ DisplayPort clear CMOS, should also work from one of my other GPU's.

Try removing the CMOS battery for about 10 mins, i usually do this to reset my bios.

You could try a new battery as the one you have may be on it's way out. (not sure if this would cause sleep problems though)

Can you list the components you are using?

Not listed above but I did replace the battery as it must be pretty old by now. I only left it a minute or two so will try for longer and see if that helps:

These are the components:

MB: Asus Maximus Gene V MATX
CPU: Intel i5 3570k
RAM: Kingston HyperX blu. 16GB
GPU: MSI GTX 1060 GGB Gaming X
PSU: Corsair TX650 Gold
SSD: SK hynix 120GB SL308
HDD: 500GB Samsung Spinpoint
OS: Win 10 Home

Currently doing my testing with 1 stick of 8GB RAM, have tried moving it to all slots, one of the slots gives the Q-Code 55 about memory and all other slots are showing the Q-Code 30.

OS was installed about a month ago before I moved to another case. Other than moving components to another case I reapplied thermal paste as it was old and dry.

Also testing with just the MB, CPU RAM and GPU connected only.

Did you remove the GPU before trying the onboard graphics?

Yes, have tried switching on with no gpu installed, trying the HDMI port and the Display Port.

Have also switching on with GPU installed and switing between all connections on the GPU then both the motherboard ones.

Also left the CMOS battery out of the MB overnight and still getting the same issue.
