If you run an Asus Mobo then you may want to read this. Ive recently been getting the odd BSOD, i first put this down to my fresh instal of Vista 64 but as there isnt much software yet instaled and all drivers are up to date i looked at it being a hardware issue.
I slowly, through the elimination process started to rule out CPU,mem, graphics and chipset drivers and any associated overclocks. The system would run Orthos no problem and memtest was fine, COD4 crash's were random and 3D Mark (all versions) run fine.
Today the system kept BSing stating various issues, normally when sitting doing nothing, it wasnt high temps as the CPU, NB and GFX are watercooled with very low readings.
I then noticed when in Task Manager that an Asus process was running, its called ASUS ACPI cneter. I googled this and found lots of people were suffering the same symptoms. This process is instaled with Asus Probe and seems to serve no purpose other than conflict with lots of other software.
Attached is a guide from a guy called Ralph McFukko http://www.ocforums.com/archive/index.php/t-508819.html to get rid of this process.
1. Remove all Asus software. - All of it. If it asks for a reboot... don't... not yet.
2. Fire up task manager and end the Asus Acpi Cneter task. (if running at the moment)
3. Find the Asus folder in your program files (in my case it was C:\Program Files (x86)\Asus) and delete the entire Asus folder.
4. Fire up regedit and ctl+f AAcenter.exe and set that value to nothing. (right click + delete)
If you are having issues like mine then this may be the solution. Since following the guide i have been BSOD free.
5. Reboot and it's gone.
Since following this guide i have been 100% BSOD free and my OC is back up to 3.4ghz (E6300) and ive just encoded 400 music tracks with both CPU cores at 100% and played 3 hours of COH and COD4.
