Ok just got my MVG and i cannot seem to use the asmedia sata ports? if i try and use them the pc fails to boot, if i put all my sata connections into the z77 ports its fine!

What am i doing wrong, it says to only use the asmedia for data drives only so im trying to plug my scratch disc into it.

What drives do you have in the system? If its only one than the problem is that asmedia is data only so it won boot, if there are a couple of drives but the OS was installed with more than just the boot drive installed the secondary disks may have some OS data on them needed to boot, which can't be read by asmedia.

Probably the worst explanation ever, on the train and tired.

Do you mean it fails to post or Windows does not boot mate???

If it fails to post what is the code??? I only ever put optical drives on Asmedia try this config with all SSD and mechanical HD on Intel ports.

If its Windows fails to boot then as teh above user suggests it could well be that Windows has put the small system partition on one of the drives other than your main one and that this is the one you keep connecting to the Asmedia controller.

8pack you win again, works fine with OOD on asmeadia, and a little bios update as well ;)

8pack while i have your attention do you know of any good guides for overclocking the cpu and ram on this board? i have an i7 3770k and 16gb of 2400mhz tridantx.

i have de lidded my cpu so temps are not an issue, what volts would you use 24/7?

There are so many options i dont know what half of them do O_o

many thanks

If its 24/7 I would read the silicon you have as far as voltage goes. Usually you need to increase voltage linearly with frequency. As soon as this linear relationship jumps stop there with the clock basically.

e.g 4.5 1.2 , 4.6 1.24 , 4.7 1.28 , 4.8 1.35 stop at 4.7. This is the chip telling you no more. Every chip is different.

Initially set VCCIO 1.05, VCCSA to 1.10, PLL 1.70 and XMP for the RAM and clock the CPU as you would normally with Manual Voltage via multiplier with an Optimized Digi power profile.

I dont know of any guides as such.

ty 8pack thats some good advice. I haven’t had a chance to clock the ram or the cpu yet.... I will save that for this weekend.

I was gob smacked at the amount of flexibility this board has with the digi vrm for ram and cpu etc.

Im really looking forward to giving my stuff a good push, iv not had the opportunity to play with such a great board before.

MVG is the best in its price point for what it does by far.

You get many on here recommending this and that with absolutely zero experience. That board helped me to second in the GSKILL Cup Overclocking comp against pro clockers with over 9000 entries I can confidently recommend it and show why.

You need any help let me know.

Ao is just the mode the SATA controller is in and it indicates its handed over to the OS.

Matt is totally correct its fine.

ok asmedia is being a *****, i have just reinstalled W7 but with my devices plugged into where i want them.

so in the z77 chipset are my
- samsung ssd and WD 2tb hdd

and in my asmedia are my
- ODD

but IF i plug in any other HDD or SSD it will not boot!

Qcode says A0 but it just hangs in the windows boot logo, if i remove the HDD or SSD it boots?

What is going on? clearly my asmedia works but surely im doing something wrong?

I want to add a 60GB SSD for paging/ scratching/ cacheing.

Has Windows put the small system partition it creates on one of those disks. If it has you cant change there location as i will not then boot.

The best way to install Windows with only the SSD you want Windows on in the port you want it on. Then install drivers. Then attach all your other drives as you want em.

Do you have it set to boot from Asmedia before Intel?

no there is no option too.
