My 2 week old asus laptop is running very slow at bootup
on the windows splash screen it goes to the welcome screen and will not go to desktop for about 20 seconds

ive uninstalled most of the asus bloatware but its still reasonably slow to start
any tips / help on what i can do ?

Does it make any difference if I have 1 core as apose to 4 cores selected in msconfig startup ?

OK now I thought I was going mad, I thought my laptop read to go bloody back mine is little older then yours but I installed windows 7 ult on a new drive without any of the asus stuff and it ran REALLY fast even without its drivers, I don't know witch driver slows it down but there is one, also don't install MSE(Microsoft Security Essentials) as it seems to really lock up the system for some strange reason I think one of the asus tools or drivers are really making this laptop mess up, if you come up with anything please tell me I finely got used to this laptop and don't want to take it back again its only about a month old and this simple driving me nuts now :)

Thanks for the post the GJ02 as I was just googling around to saw this.

If I have time I might reinstall again and slowly install each driver and test after each one, I have the i7 version 4 cores that sees it as 8 cores thanks to hyper threading with 8 gig of ram there is NO way it should be slow, I used Soluto to remote most of the apps from boot up and that did not seem to really sort it. Test Soluto and post your boot up speed, its a free tool, it might ask you it restart more then ones but this is still in beta.

Download Soluto it helps you removed things from start up/boot I have removed many things and my laptop is faster now not as fast as I like it but its faster, It as to do with a few of there software and also a few drivers I can see that is only for this device whats seems to slow it right now, reinstalling windows and doing other tests shown me there stock OS is just very bulky and not needed for all there cack also there is many dvd/mulit media software you need to disable its not needed soluto will also show you them.

thanks rex
ive used soluto just now, it claims to of knocked time off my boot but it still seems to take an age

im planning on reinstall tomorrow, see what happens then
1min 16 to boot !
