Asus N55SL

The ASUS N55SL will take upto 16gb of DDR3, you could also fit a SSD and use a DVD Caddy to fit the original HDD into the DVD bay. Also searching will also show how to upgrade the screen to 1080p.

16Gb? seriously?, I believe you but can you give me the link please. I have just gone and bought 2 sticks of 4Gb. I now intend returning them and buying 2x8Gb.

I never realised I could use the blue ray bay as a drive bay.

Thanks

Ok, so Ive been digging around and I came across this However, PC manufacturers should now find it easier to support larger memories because the Intel Core iX chips have the memory controller on the processor. Although 8GB is still common, many mobile Core chips now support 16GB, according to Intel's Ark spec sheets. These include the Core i3 2350M, 2367M, and 2370M; the Core i5 2410M, 2430M, 2435M, and 2450M; and the Core i7 2670QM, 2675QM, 2710QE, 2720QM, 2760QM, 2820QM and 2860QM.

I hope no one objects to the link

So if I get 16GB of ram and an SSD do you think I can improve on this score or will I need to do something with the GPU?

I had the N55 with the GT 555M, fitted 16gb of RAM myself, did not replace the HDD or Optical drive, the GPU is fixed ie soldiered to the board.

SSD swap will be easy if need be put the HDD in a external caddy and keep the DVD/BLU drive fitted.

I never thought getting 16Gb of dual channel ram could be so hard. Any ideas where to find 2x8Gb of 1333 MHz ram (in stock) for my laptop?

Hi, could you guys please give me the links as to where you purchased the ram as I own the exact same laptop also can you give me the link for the 1080p upgrade. Thanks in advance.
