Hi,

Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of the ASUS N56V series Laptops?

The specs seem too good to be true for the price, i.e. 1920x1080 display, Blu-Ray, i7 CPU, 16gb RAM, Dedicated graphics etc...,all for just under £800, or you can get an i5 with 8gb RAM for just under £700. It looks great too.

I'd love to pull the trigger on one, but it just seems too good to be true at the price and there had to be cuts made somewhere I'd imagine.

I'm looking for a Full HD Laptop for around £7-800, but I'm finding it hard to locate one that ticks all the boxes.

I could get a custom built Optimus IV for around that price, but I'm not gone on the design.

Any feedback would be great.

Thanks.

Hi fella,

Had the Asus N55SF i7 + GT 555M, the only grip l had with it was the mouse pad which picked up a shine after some use.

The Asus N56V looks a stunning bit of kit, and apart from the mouse pad the build quality of the N55SF was outstanding, don't hesitate mate, you might feel the price is too good to be true however ASUS generally don't produce too many lemons.

Ok, thanks for that.

If I go for it, I think the i5 model would suffice and the warranty can be extended to 3 years for an additional £50, which would be all in for around £750.

I like the Lenovo Y580 aswell, but it's a little over budget at £1000.

Not very good touchpad, heavy, doesn't look very sleek/elegant, useless add on subwoofer. Dedicated graphic is kinda mid-way, can't really handle the intensive stuff, and a bit overkill for light gaming.

Minor quirk is left side tend to get hotter than right side during heavy gaming session. I bought one for my gf 2 or 3 months ago when it came out. Overall a solid choice for the price if you don't mind the aesthetic.

Thanks.

I like the design very much and the subwoofer wouldn't bother me. I probably wouldn't even use it.

The weight wouldn't be a problem as it would be sat on a desk 90% of the time and I really just want it for general use, with the possibility of very light gaming such as retro stuff. To be honest, modern gaming on a laptop never made sense to me anyway.

What model did you purchase by the way?

I can't remember the model number but it's the N56VZ with Core i5 + Gt650M and the 1080p screen.

AFAIK, there's 3 model of the n56vz, i5, i5+1080p screen, and i7. I only unboxed the one with 1366*768 screen and the i5 with 1080p (the shop told me there's no difference between i5 and i7 except the CPU of course, and the i7 comes with pre-installed windows so I can't unbox it and give it back if I don't like it). Screen looks much better in the 1080p version so I took that one.
