Think the time has finally come to upgrade my router. I’m using an openreach hg612 in modem mode and get about 65 sync. Hey broadband is rolling out in the area but don’t know how long till there here if ever. Use BT whole home as Wi-Fi and use the asus 2.4 band for my ring doorbell. Seems the asus is crashing a lot and freezing up. Tried reboot and seems to be really laggy. Looking for something like another asus that will last another few years

Huawei AX3000 - buy the multipack if you need a mesh. It’s cheap as chips and it works really well in a basic ‘does what it says in the tin’ sort of way.

Start with the basics, what exactly are you doing that needs the ASUS in preference to the TT supplied hub and how much do you want to spend? From that it should be pretty easy to suggest where you need to be looking. I’m not generally a fan of most ISP supplied hardware (though it does vary a lot and I am not really what it’s aimed at), TT’s… well it’s adequate at best, but I literally wouldn’t use an ASUS networking product unless I was paid a lot of money to do so and nobody knew.

TPLink are decent enough and cheap, they tend to produce well featured kit at a modest price and offer LTS. I like the x20 mesh kit comes in a pair for £100ish, it the next model up is fractionally more expensive for more bandwidth. If you have the need, something that runs *WRT may make more sense.

Bought the AX 3 pro with talk talk isp can’t get an IP. Do I need to get my PPOE details from talk talk? I’m using the HG612 openreach modem. Back to using the asus with automatic setup and obtains a WAN adress straight away. The AX3 would not connect. Any other tips?

As far as I'm aware, Talk Talk use DHCP, there's no requirement for PPPoE.

Yeah they do and the asus picks it up straight away. The ax3 doesn’t. Seems to pick a wan ip but looks different to previous wan ip length and Wi-Fi on internet doesn’t work.
