my memory is ocz pc6400 (800mhz)

so if i want to get say, a fsb of 366, i shouldnt need to touch my memory settings as its currently underclocked right?
only with 400fsb will my mem be at "stock" speeds?

any help on my setup much appreciated.
asus p5b non deluxe....conroe 1.8 (e6300)
600w enermax noisetaker
artic freezer 7
antec p180
sb x-fi
x1800 xt 256mb

cheers

cheers....
im struggling to get over 333fsb on this asus board :(
struggled on my ds3 also, before i powered it off mid bios flash!!

as for x-fi..

there not bad, the mp3 upsampling works pretty good on poor encoded tracks...

you can get em cheap enough now too..

This board, on the latest bios, doesn't have memory divider options though does it?

I don't know what the default divider is, but I got higher FSB results by selecting the memory to run at 533mhz instead of 667 (or 800 in your case), which I guess is like having a divider.

Its the one thing missing from the bios I reckon.

overclocking experts please help!

cheers...
i set mem to run at 1-1 yep..

i also tried cpu multi at 6 instead of 7

ive found out anything higher than 333fsb is a no go....sometimes i get bios screen artifacts, sometimes hangs on detecting ide drives in jmicron chip thing...

ripped all pci cards out too..

cant get above 333 really.
even if i put 1.5 volts thru it and 2.1 on my mem! which it can handle...

just got newest bios also...

strange cant get over 333 even if i lower the multi to 6....
ANYONE please help!!!!

anyone got the same setup as me????
pleas elet me know bios settings and if i need to change RAM or board or anything....

sp2004 is failing mem test actually at 320 fsb so mem is runnin at 640??!!

which it can handle yes?

ocz pc6400 2x512mb ddr2

this board will go over 500fsb. You need to tweak the settings, and MUST lock the pci-e frequency etc. Have a look at the stickies over at www.xtremesystems.org and they will give you some help. Don't crank the voltages up too high yet, those settings on the XS thread should get you moving nicely.

Il be trying the same as you by the weekend on 2 rigs :D

Try some of the things listed in this thread, it should get your fsb up:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=110193

But if your looking for high overclocks, then the arctic freezer will seriously hold you back. Look at getting a scythe ninja if you want to push towards 3.3-3.5ghz.

many thanks...
temps are at 35 on cpu...so freezer is doing ok i think....
locked pci to 100, and tried 101 upto 105.....
windows\system\config\system is corrupt crap comes up upon windows boot....
same on safe mode, and even if it goes past that, just reboots itself...

on another note, if i run sp2004 memory stress, it errors on ANYTHING above 320 fsb...thats when the mem is at 1:1 so its running at 640mhz
.cpu stress test is ok on this setting tho....

ive literally tried all the settings over at xs....

please let me know how you get on.

many thanks.
pity no one else has the p5b standard board...
like i say, i can go get another board, but dont wanna run into same probs...im just lookin for a 366fsb overclock roughly....maybe ram dodgy??
seems strange windows wont boot on a high fsb..(anything over 340) corrupt files...

anything below, and sp2004 throws memory errors.

ah you have the P5B vanilla, i though tyou had the deluxe. Still i saw a thread over at xs with one of those going crazy.

If your install is borked, try re-installing windows and working your overclock up slowly and methodically.

I have most my bits coming this week, but i don;t think my psu will be here until next week. Il see how mine goes then. Surely some other guys here can help, or has everyone else gone for the DS3 or P5W ?

Give the following settings a try. I wouldn't recommend going straight in with the 400FSB though, but just work it up from where you are now.

FSB Freq - 400
PCIE Freq - 100Mhz
PCI Clock Sync - Auto
Spread Spectrum - Auto
Mem Voltage - 1.9v
CPU Core - 1.4v
FSB Term Voltage - 1.3v

I'm not sure the CPU needs the voltage really, but CPU-Z reports 1.213v, and I've heard the Vdroop on this board is quite bad.

I've also got the speedstep disabled, and I'm running bios 309.

This gets me a 19s 1MB PI time. I'm sure I can take it further, but I've only got Corsair Value Ram in there! It's running at 800Mhz (5-5-5-15) now though, up from 667, and seems happy enough.

smashing, will give that a go, many thanks, someone with same board as me!

im on same bios too..

have you left all other options at defaults??
no q-fan etc?
no speedstep, and all cpu options disabled?

I'm running a basic watercooling setup, so I've got the Qfan thing turned off as the CPU fan MB pin is powering my pump and I don't want that 'spinning down'!

All the other settings are stock though, but Speedstep and TM disabled.

I don't think it's the water helping me either, as it is very basic with a single rad, and I did it more for quietness than ultimate cooling.

right so if i load defaults, and turn off TM, and leave all others at stock, and just apply your settings listed above, i should be ok? will give it a whirl about 6ish....

sure ive tried every combination going like!, but will try your setings...

on my memory, i shouldnt need to touch speed and volts right? as its 800mhz stuff.

Well, obviously, your results may vary - nothings guaranteed in this overclocking malarkey! Your processor and board may be technically the same as mine, but they are in all probability different in regarding ability to overclock.

I couldn't get past 320FSB until the 309 update, but then looking back, I'd left speedstep/TM enabled which I read on here can get in the way of overclocking, so it might have been that rather than the latest bios.

I've also read that brand new components don't always overclock that well, and need to 'burn in' before you can achieve good OCs. That may well be rubbish though!!

Either way, before I couldn't clock very far, and now I can, and those are my settings.

Re the RAM voltage, a lot of RAM needs a bit of a boost before it runs properly, even at stock, and I've always run my modules at 1.9v. Other folks on here run RAM at 2.2v with no problems. It just depends on the make and type of memory I guess. If yours won't work, then try and up it to 2.0v, then 2.1v etc.

Re the speed, as you move the FSB up in BIOS 309, you should see some other speed options open up in the RAM speed section. Choose one that matches or is below your rated RAM speed initially, and take it from there.

Good luck, but please don't blame me if your system goes bang! :) OC'ing is fun, but can be expensive!!

haha!, well ive had all the stuff on max volts a few times anyway!

but yeah ive heard you have to "burn in" your gear...

glad you couldnt get past 320 also at first, as thats just what im gettin...
did your board refuse to post? or booted but errored in windows....

i'll reply back later tonight and see how it goes..
many thanks!!

i think my memory is not doin too good with this bios...i think i will be ok with a new bios revision, hopefully!
