Asus P5B-VM help

hi guys

basicly got my Asus P5B-VM today loaded everything on and it all works great apart from when i click on the cd drive when there is a disc in there rthe system will lock up for about 3-4 secs then resume normal operation and this is really bugging me as my music will jam up and the mouse does not work anyone have any advice

ok this is also happening on my 250gb seagate ide drive i have on the same channel i get a sort of stutering sometimes when im accessing data, is the ide channel borked?

Btw, did you download the latest BIOS version? 0307 iirc.

This may be irrelivent, but i've had hdd and optical on the same ide cable, both set to master and it works, but acts up horribly (access lags,etc.). You havent mentioned what all you got connected on the ide's.

well i havent updated the bios but i have got 1 Lg gsa 4167 dvdrw on secondary and a seagate 250gb ide hard drive on the other, btw there is only one ide connector so i cant test it on another

Try the optical on its own (no ide) and see if anything changes. If it works fine try swapping the settings on the two devices (master/slave and dont forget cable select.)

well ive changed the cable and decided its borked so well done to asus for producing the crapest board i have ever seen, wont even OC 10mhz
