Hi all

Need some help here - I am pretty certain that the P5B-VM board I got yesterday from OC is pooched, but wanna make sure, so I'm looking for suggestions here on what to try next.

Quick story:
New system was purchased a couple months ago - C2D E6300, Asus P5VD2-MX, OCZ DDR2 and a Geforce 7900 GT - all installed and working beautifully. Due to very limited OC options on the VIA based P5VD2-MX I decided to purchase the Asus P5B-VM, which should have more options and better overclockability (IS that a word?)

Anyways, got the P5B-VM, installed it and on powering up the system, no video signal.

Tried the folowing:
Resetting CMOS according to instructions. Still no go.

OC Support wanted me to update BIOS, which is hard to do on a system with no video. Asus has an emergency BIOS restore, but that requires the BIOS to be corrupt or missing and the system to be able to boot up, then it'll look at the attached CD for the BIOS. Tried inserting a CD with the latest BIOS but no go. No read activity on the CD, so that didn't work either.

The reason OC Support wanted me to try the BIOS upgrade was because of previous generations of MB's were not built for C2D CPU's, but the P5B-VM is an intel 965 based board - built with C2D in mind, so I doubt very much that is an issue.

I have removed any peripherals not needed, so it's basically just memory, cpu and power, reset swtiches that are attached to the board.

Is there anything else I can try?

PSU is working fine and is quite capable of handling the loads :) 500W Enermax ATX2 PSU in use.

There seems to be a lot of memory incompatibility with these new Conroe mobo's so if it were me i boot without the memory in to see if it detects no memory, and gives the appropriate error beeps then that may well point towards an incompatibility problem. It might be worth checking to see if that mobo has any known issues with the other hardware in the sytem.

Yeah, I thought of memory too and checked the memory voltage requirements. The P5B-VM only supports 1.85V to 1.95V I believe. My OCZ Memory is rated at 1.9 so that should be ok.

Presently theres nothing but the cpu and memory on the system and I even tried without the memory - still no post beeps :(

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't consider memory voltage until late today, so I went and checked.

I'm leaning towards the memory now as the most likely suspect, so thanks for putting that thought in my head again. Getting a bog standard 256 stick today to play with, so I'll have a go tonight at getting the board to boot.

Did this work at all? I'm having similar issues. :(
