Just built this with 2x2GB of ocz 800mhz reaper htc ram and an 8800GT, all fans come on but no output to moniter, grateful if you guys have any suggestions. All fans spin up, none then spin down and there are no beeps. psu is an enermax liberty 500w 8pin 12v is plugged in

I have tried:
Reseating all components and going down to 1 stick of ram
Resetting cmos
tried graphics card in both pciex16 slots

I will try:
Different graphics card, ram and cpu to see if one of these is faulty

I think I see what the problem is, many people are reporting that unless these boards are flashed with the latest bios they dont even post with wolfdales. I'll try that and report back with findings.

You need bios 502 or 601 for Wolfdales. 601 is the best. I had a 8500 in my P5E with no problems apart from the Wolfdale was rubbish. Don't give it more than 1.45v for clocking or even more preferably keep it below the VID +25%.

Thanks pasty.

All I can say is Asus you muppets!

I've spent hours getting this thing to boot and all it needed was a bios update. I know this is a fairly standard thing for a new CPU but not with a motherboard that has a sticker on it saying "Works with new 45nm intel cpus"!

Pasty, can you let me know what settings you have on the p5e, I tried an overclock to 4ghz at stock volts, just dropped the ram and that seemed fine but then blue screened during 3dmark

My settings for 4Ghz was originally everything on Auto apart from the Fsb which was at 422mhz. However, after that i got greedy and went for 4.2, then 4.4ghz both prime stable and then 4.6Ghz which i could'nt get prime stable no matter what volts or settings i used. After that i lost all of my prime stable clocks and it would no longer boot at 4Ghz with everything at auto. It's a known problem with the Wolfdales that when you give them an increase in Vcore that they strat to play up and/or degrade. After that i needed 1.385V Vcore for 4Ghz. Everything else was still on auto. You should'nt need to touch any motherboard settings for a fsb of close to 400 as this board is designed to do that at stock. The only other clock i could get stable after that was 4.2Ghz and here are my settings for that:-

Fsb 442mhz
Vcore 1.45v
CPU PLL 1.78v
FSB Termination voltage 1.50v
NB voltage 1.51v
SB voltage 1.150v
CPU GTL 0.63x
NB GTL 0.67x
SB 1.5v 1.60v.

Everything else set to auto.

There are a couple of good threads over at XS than may help you. I learnt a lot about the P5E from the first when i first got it. Lots of good info and loads of settings too.

P5E thread.

Wolfdale thread.

Have you done the pencil mod for the vdroop yet? It's in the P5E thread above. It really does help a lot. I have got rid of my E8500 now after the problems i had with it. Going to wait a good couple of weeks and hope there are some decent batches out by then. Getting a E8400 instead as they seem to clock better.

Superb, thanks a lot for the effort pasty, much appreciated.

At the moment I am using the retail h/s and fan which I think is rubbish and havent done the vdroop mod yet, were you on the stock hs+fan or something else. Im thinking I wont be able to get a decent o/c until I change.

Also am I right in thinking this m/b doesnt have a sensor to monitor ddr voltage?

bit odd that it didnt work with the standard bios, i had 402 i think and it booted first time, but flased to 601 now :D hehe just for the hell of it

It could have been old stock I guess but even so with a sticker on the front claiming it works with 45nm cpus I wouldnt have expceted to have to flash the bios just to get it to post! :-)

I think it had bios 20x

I was on water with mine so don't go over doing it with the stock cooler. You can pick up a Freezer 7 Pro for around £12 which would do a good job.

No there is not a sensor for the Vdimm which is a bit maddening as there were reports that these boards overvolt the ram. AIsuite supposedly can read the Vdimm when it works. Personally i have never had the damn thing, work even with the latest version it crashes as soon as it's launched. That's Asus software for you.
