Got my new kit this morning but having a few problems.

Got the TRUE cooler on there, and I've installed the back mounting plate, and screwed all the screws in as far as they go. The heatsink doesn't feel stable though, you can easily twist it around? Is this normal? :\ Tried reseating it 3 times now but still the same.

Only booted as far as the bios and it's showing 100c on the cpu and the temp's not moving (is this the highest the board can display?)

Also tried the retail heatsink and fan on there but I'm also getting 100c in the bios and it's not moving? Is there a fault with this board and reading the correct temps or is it really at that?

Brand new CPU model, so it's quite probably that a BIOS update will sort out the CPU temp.

Is it likely that it is reading wrong then? I haven't gone any further than the bios yet just incase the reading is correct.

Anyone else here use a TRUE? Are you able to move them when it's fitted correctly?

Installed XP quickly and checked out the temp with core temp, idling at 42c with the retail cooler - much better!

Going to re-fit the TRUE now and see what temps I get...

Installed the TRUE now temps around the same at stock speed and voltage.

Am I better with Real Temp?

Getting 39/36c on there?

Core Temp 0.99.3 is accurate. I have temps around 24 on one core, 29 on the other. I have a mild OC to 3.6GHz using stock cooler until my new cooler gets here. Those temps are with a Wave Master case, notorious for being poor in terms of air flow.

EDIT: Oops, I thought you were using a P5Q-E, not P5E. *Info removed.*

TRUE needs the washer mod if its tilting, add a nut or a penny under the scissors that hold the TRUE and youre sorted. Also you will see a massive improvement if you load the rampage bios in the P5E

Looks like I need to do the washer mod then to get the TRUE fitting better.

What's the max vcore I should go upto on this E8600? I've read most places say 1.45v max. Is that 1.45v in bios or in windows (idle or load). 1.45v bios gives me 1.425v in windows and 1.4v under full load.

What improvements will the rampage bios give me? (good a link?) Can I just flash it through the bios at startup (this is how I done it to flash to the latest bios of asus's site for the p5e)

Happy reading :D

Thanks for the info!

I'll do the washer mod and see how far I can get on this bios then maybe look at flashing to the Rampage Bios :D

Also, I know different chips have different VID's.

Where do you get this information from? Core Temp? VID on there is 1.25v.

Cheers, downloading the 903 bios now.

Have done the washer trick but need to use something a bit thicker I think as there is still slight movement, temps are the same.

Now running the 903 bios, thanks for that.

Currently running Orthos at 4275Mhz (450x9.5) with voltage at 1.392v under load. Temps under load are 64c with the new Coretemp or 59c with realtemp.

If the TRUE is actually rocking from side to side then that could be a problem, however if it's just rotating slightly where it is then that's normal.

I have the same motherboard and the TRUE, it moves slightly if you rotate it but that's because of the way the bracket holds the heatsink in place in the centre. It doesn't however sway or rock from side to side.

It's not rocking, just able to rotate it as you say.

Quick test -

Pll voltage at 1.52v, everything else default apart from Vcore.

Off up the gfs now so will test more tomorrow!
