I've been looking into upgrading my PC to 8Gb of Ram. The board supports it, however looking at crucial they only supply 4Gb Kits. So I could buy 4 x 2Gb.

Is anyone running the P5E-VM-HDMI with 8Gb of ram? if so which Ram did you go with?

Only running 4GB on mine but thought I'd post since you've had no other replies. Using:

Corsair Twin2X XMS2 4GB (Kit 2x2GB) 800MHZ DDR2 CL5 DIMM (5-5-5-18)

Its used as a mythtv media PC so wasn't too bothered about the speed.

Obviously you'll need a 64 bit OS for 8GB.

Thanks for the reply.

The board only supports 800Mhz DDR2

I was thinking perhaps going for 1066Mhz and clocking it down, seeing as it cheap at the moment.

Do you not already have 4GB in your motherboard? Surely you could just pick up another 2x2GB kit of the same ram?

No I don't have 4gb. I currently have 2Gb. I am looking at getting 8Gb, The board only supports 800Mhz. I was going to purchase 1066Mhz. Then down clock it. Just want to make sure that's possible?

I would be amazed if it was not possible to down-clock the RAM.

Saying that, I haven't tried it on anything other than 4 year-old hardware, so...

After thinking about it I'm not overclocking, by the time I upgrade again the 1066Mhz will more than likely be out of date.

For this reason alone I don't think I would benefit for going for 1066mhz.

i have that board with 4x2gb of g-skill pc8000 running at it's rated speed of 1000mhz, so there is no reason as to why you couldn't do it.

It only says it supports 800mhz ram as that is an industry standard, you can still clock the ram far past those speeds, i've had ram running at 1200mhz on this board =)
