Hello, im new to this overclocking business, in fact, i dont really want to overclock my machine, just for it to run stable, something I havnt managed to do since I bought it over 6 months ago. I have tweaked a few settings, most notably the memory voltage, it was set as default to auto but would freeze the machine up after a while so setting it a bit lower at 1.76 seemed to do the trick for a while but not for long. The memory is rated at 1.8v but just wont work at that, ive even set the latencys correctly as specified but no help. Im at the end of my tether here, can anybody just give me a sweet spot solution to set it at so it will work?

Many thanks in advance,

Andy

How is that possible on a P5E3?

Are you using 2x2gb + 1x2gb? If so that most likely your problem. Try it without the 2x1gb.

sorry for being thick but what is NB/MCH? plus im extremely reluctant to pull any memory out this thing considering how much it cost, btw its 2x1gb and 2x2gb

It's the Northbridge, and generally when people are running large quantities of ram and or running with all the dimms filled (your doing both :p) the Northbridge needs a bump in voltage otherwise the system might not behave/BSOD etc. It's something I would try to eliminate it as the cause of your problems anyway.

Do the latencies of both the kits you have match, if not set them both to the highest of the kits, also check what volts each kit need to reach the frequencies and timings. I would also be inclined to bump the voltage for the ram itself up by one notch too.

i made sure when i bought them that they matched exactly, knowing the problems it may cause if they didnt. How much of an increase would you suggest, both on NB and the ram?

Well for the ram up one notch, and for the NB it depends what it's on currently. For instance I run my DFI at 1.5 with four full dimms, and I did the same with my P5K. Check in the bios or a program such a everest etc to see what it's currently set to. I wouldn't go above 1.45 unless your NB has good cooling :)

ok, just tried that, also tried to set the memory to 1800 but as in the past that never works, wont even post so set it back to auto, set the nb voltage to 1.30 to start with, dram voltage to 1.80 and the latencys at 8 8 8 24 as per manufacturers. Hopefully this will sort it out, ill keep her running and let you know what occurs. Thanks for your help (but might need some more depending!)

Erm no, that'll just let you choose your ram's frequency however you're running at the right speed anyway so I wouldn't bother.

I had the EXACT same freezing probs with the same board. From forum advice I changed voltage settings etc etc etc (I was using 4 x 1Gb 1600Mhz Corsair) and NOTHING helped. However, the ONLY way I got my PC to run stable and with no more freezing issues was to only use 2 sticks of the memory. Never had a prob since.

well i think i can confidently say that the advice from Happy has cured the problem, pc has been running at full pelt since the changes and no issues whatsoever, thanks mate!
