Just putting together a new pooter !.....(it's been a 2 or 3 years, and it' all changed !!! :(

Have P5k-SE, and went for a Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B CPU Cooler... which has a 120mm fan and a normal looking 3pin plug.... So why on earth does the mobo now have a 4 pin version on the CPU header !!!
It will fit, but does not run....(CPU was at 45c when viewing BIOS set-up screen.... Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient" OEM).
Connected to the 3 pin Chassis header instead, and works fine.

So now I have to replaced the supplied fan, to match the board ? or just leave it on the Chassis header ?

You did put it on the correct three pins, didn't you? It should be on the three closest to the little back plate thing that sticks up - not on the pin furthest from the vertical bit. If you've got it right, the fan should work normally.

It's probably working fine - depending on your BIOS setup, it won't spin the fan up if the CPU is cool enough - and cool enough can be a core temperature of 50C in my experience.

Will only fit one to one end, leaving the left hand pin exposed. As the ribs do match up still with the header. Which is why I tried it...... Was expecting it to kick in much less than 50C !!!
Pretty sure I turned off the auto fan speed as well....to get it started.
Will try again later, see if I can get it warm enough ;)

Cheers
