Asus P5K-SE + nVidia 8500GT. S/c causes BSOD when copying files over network

I'm having truly dreadful problems with BSODs on my new PC built from parts from OcUK. It seems to be IRQ related on my Asus P5K-SE m/b, notably when I enable any kind of soundcard support. After much trial and error over the past 4 days or so, I have it down to the following steps.

1. Disable onboard audio in BIOS and/or remove a PCI s/c.
2. Install WinXP, which includes SP2.
3. Install Intel P35 chipset drivers (Intel Core2 Duo E4400 on Asus P5K-SE m/b) (from Asus website).
4. Install onboard m/b LAN drivers (latest off Asus website).
5. Install nVidia 8500GT drivers (from nVidia website).

At this point I can copy many Gb of data across my LAN. I left it doing so for a few hours this morning just to prove it was okay, and I also copied 154Gb overnight last night too, in a slightly different test case.

6. Next, ENable the onboard audio support in the BIOS.
7. Install latest audio drivers and check audio is working.

Now, within minutes of setting some data copying across my network, I get a lovely BSOD with an IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL message.

I've tried testing this with a PCI s/c and the onboard audio disabled. I've tried it with an nVidia 8500GT and an el-cheapo 7300LE as a comparison. I've tried different revision of the nVidia drivers (158, 162 and 163 IIRC). I've checked in the System Information tool to see what IRQs are sharing but all the interesting items (LAN, Video and Audio) are in the IRQ16+ range, usually shared with something else). I can copy files okay with the PCI s/c installed in the m/b and no audio drivers installed until I install the nVidia drivers, then => boom.

At this point in time I've had enough. I've reinstalled XP soooo many times that I want to throw the whole lot in the bin. But I don't know whether I should try a different m/b or a different video card, or both.

I just want a single PCIx-16 slot for video, one PCI-x slot for a TV tuner card, and a PCI slot for a s/c. The P5K-SE looked perfect for my needs, but no audio makes it useless to me.

Does any of this seem familiar to anyone?
