I've been dreading overclocking my new chip for ages now fearing it might break or the ram won't handle it (XMS2 2GB matched pair) but today I went for it! I left everything on Auto and upped the FSB a bit at a time only.

In windows I noticed that the vcore was being upped automatically by the mobo as I left them on auto so it looks like overclocking is pee easy on this mobo :)

I'm at 300mhz fsb now which gives 2.7ghz with a 9x multi - going to go for 333mhz so my goal of 3ghz can be reached - going to run some stability tests but so far everything looks excellent and temps have not gong up much at all.

CoreTemp reports 52 54 48 47 which is no different than what it was reporting at stock speeds so it looks like I have a lot of headroom regarding temps (just installed a Freezer 7 Pro with a mash of AS5)

I have not overclocked cpu/mem in years and it's a refreshing feeling of it being this easy this time round, previously on the AthlonXP days you had to trial and error everything as auto vcore adjustment etc didn't exist.

*is very happy*

Screens: Stock 2.4GHz / 2.7GHz / 3GHz = BSOD during stress testing :/

sweet, personal i'd go with AMD.

They take skill to overclock, Intels u just up the FSB.......:p

:D

Fanboy alert! just kidding :p I went form AMD X2 to the Intel - first intel PC I have built myself too!

I'm at 2.82GHz now, at 2.7GHz the Windows experience index went from 5.6 (ram @ 5.6) to 5.7 (at 2.7ghz ram got 5.8 but of course my hdd remains at 5.7...need a faster hd!)

Next up, 333fsb!

Edit*

Looks like 2.7GHz will be my safe max!

Leaving the voltages auto often over does it for a lot of things though, and rarely ever gets the best/ right voltage, play around with voltages yourself, tis better honest :p

hmm I really think my RAM is the holdback though - it's unstable at 3ghz (ram is at 400mhz) but do you think that's because it's not getting enough volts perhaps ? I thought I'd need 1066mhz ram to get a good oc or lower latency stuff? atm I have the CAS5 XMS2 ram by the way.
