Is it worth the extra £10 over the standard p5k will this board be able to clock the q6600 to at least 3.4ghz with a decent hsf? or could youreccomend a different board

The extra £10 is solely for the ability to use DDR3 in the future, but I'd be happy to just go for normal P5K, since you'll need to get 2x 2Gb DDR3 sticks in the future should you want 4Gb which would be mighty expensive for some time at least.

Both are capable of clocking the quad I recogn.
 
Clocked my GO stepped quad (Q6600) to 3.4 with Arctic Freezer 7 Pro and
P5KC. Can't get it stable beyond that though but cracking little board for the price. Running DDR2 ram with mine. Can't comment on DDR3 - it's too pricey for me at the mo ;)
