Asus P5Ke - raid?

Hi All,

looking at this mb to delivery raid 0 (using the inbuild bios) with 2 (or 4) x samsung F1 750gb. How good is the inbuild raid controller or should I look to PCI card - as I really would like either raid 3 or 5. I was considering the Adaptec 2420sa - however that requires a PCI-x64 slot - which I dont think the mb has ??

Any info or pointers would be great.

onbord raid is ok for 1,0,10, slow on 5.

to have a quick raid 5 you need a full hardware card, very expensive £350+

onbord raid 5 is ok if you just use it for storage don't care about write speeds, it suffers as it needs to do the XOR calculations on the fly

If you do deem it important you want to use PCIeX8 or PCI-X as PCI will limit your speed.
