I have a P5N-D and a Q6600. Now I know this combination works, however i cannot get it to POST. Does this CPU/motherboard combo work out of the box or would it need a BIOS uodate. I have tried looking at the Asus website but the CPU support for that motherboard does not list a Q6600.

Now before I RMA it can someone confirm whether I need a BIOS update. By the way the board does power up and the green light on the motherboard comes on, and all the peripherals power up. I have tried reseating memory, unplugging all the drives etc.

It should work fine with a Q6600 out of the box.

Do you have anything like different RAM you can try?

Also have you got the 4 pin cpu plug in as this will stop it posting.

Only other thing i would try is clearing the CMOS

Ok, thanks for the replies. So there is 2 BIOS releases prior to the Q6600 being supported, so in theory it could have an initial BIOS release. Slightly confused then as to why you think it would work out of the box. Although, looking at the box it says it supports Quad cores. I hope this is the case as i would rather not go to the hassle of uninstalling it and RMA'ing it.

I have tried resetting the CMOS, but still no POST.

In theory it should work. Tho I've no personal experience running the older 775 chips in nVidia chipsets.
