Okay new build, pressed the power button and we have power, we have light

but we have no beep it just doesnt post, we have no noise at all

it all just powers up and thats just it

I have taken out all the connections usb etc etc... and still the same

tried the ram and dim slots

re-sited the graphics card...

gone back and checked the heat sink and cpu

everything looks fine

the motherboard as a green light on, when it powers up

i have 730 watt hiper power supply

any ideas of what it can be ????

just spent the past 1hr reading the asus support forums

and all i can say is oh dear... this board as more issues then jade goody

every other post there is an issue

whats worrying is the fact that most of em, have the same problem as me... and there does not seem to be a general rule

sometimes its ram, sometimes psu......

so far ive tried 6 different ram chips in all dif combinations of slots..

pairs, singles... no look

i have a 500watt cpu im going to try and see if i can get it to boot with that

but failing that.. not sure what else i can do

it seems this mobo is just luck if it works or not

I had this problem and had to return the board, ocuk sent me a replacement but I havent had a chance to try it yet.

Couldnt try another power supply as I didnt have one, tell us how it goes!

just tried it and no luck

it was a bit of a long shot, but ill try anything

going to phone OC tommorrow and see what they say... its a well known issue

think i may opt for the fataility board.. not sure if i can be bothered to try pot luck

I had a similar problem after I lapped my CPU, in that it just wouldnt post, no beeps but the fans and power light on the mobo were on. In the end I took the CPU off and reseated it after cleaning the contacts on the underside of the CPU and everything worked fine.

well i have tried a 500 watt psu, to see if i can get it to post and it said nooooo :P

the hiper works in my other pc

what happened to the day of reliable pc parts i ask ya

I built mine up last weekend and it was a dream to set up. My board is rev 1.01g and I have to say i,m well impresssed. No problems at all and that is using a hiper 560w psu if that helps any.

I have found that if it fails to post without any beeps and you have the fans spinning and hard drives spinning up then it is invariably either the cpu or mobo thats at fault. You mention you have another PC, can you use that to test the cpu.

I have to add I was dabbling at overclocking late last night was running nicely at 3.6mhz (401 X 9) (superpi 14.2 secs) with ram unlinked and I put some really dodgy ram figures (some thing really stupid!)

Anyhow it locked up and would'nt boot but made no beeps and the monitor wouldn't sync or anything. I thought iide fried the memory or something. Anyhow I removed the battery and shorted the Cmos and bingo everything back to normal (default)

from read the asus forums

this seems the problem.... there is not just 1 problem

from psu#s to ram timings, to ram types... to cpu connectors... it seems this mobo really is like the most pain in the back side mobo ever made lol

im not saying this mobo cannot be great... but it seems that it doesnt want to be for me :P

ive done 2 psu's, 5 different types of ddr2 ram
ive resitted the cpu, and the graphics card
plugged all cables out and tried dif set ups

it really is bizzare... i have ordered a dif board... and see how that gets on ....

Can I just check that you do have a speaker plugged in and known working (the red wire is on the positive)?

If so, then try repeatedly pressing the power button as there is a cold-boot issue sometimes if the JMicron eSATA device is enabled in the 0202 BIOS. Disable it and the problem goes away. If you upgrade to the 0401 BIOS the issue is also resolved.

I've had several Hiper PSU's and the 'bang' image they have comes from when the UK Hiper company was bought out by Coolermaster and they moved production to Taiwan. They decided they would simplify (cheapen) the design and those batches were complete poo. Almost every single one failed in a spectacular way.

They reverted to the original design and most of the problems went away, but they still have an undeserved 'bang' reputation because anyone who had one go pop, probably also had a couple of replacements go pop too, so they tend to mention it, over and over.

here is the problem lol

its like what part causes the problem, it could be the psu... but then again... a lot of other people are having problems when its been the board lol

this is going to be 1 serious pain in the backside build

i can feel it already

Hi WJA96,

Is there anyway to check if you have one of the dodgy Hiper PSU's? I would be interested to check mine tonight just out of interest.

Mines the 560w version and for my sins I bought it from the purple shirted brigade as I was desperate for a replacement to a Tagan 480w that when bang.

when a power supply goes does it go pop... bang... boom

never had a power supply go before, but my 500watt one is looking a bit dodgy lol

and made a poping noise the other day and everything switched off

but it still works

whats kinda funny ive always brought cheap power supplies.. like 15 quid for 550 watts lol

never had a problem

i get an expensive one and it could be dead

The issue is over 18 months old - if you've bought one in the last year, it's fine. I usually buy mine from the Purple shirts are they're really cheap!
