hi all i have started other threads on here on trying to overclock my Quad with this board i have been unsuccessful after trying many many different options.
after reading on this forum i have come to the conclusion that this mobo does not like quads when overclocking

anyway what processor being a Dual obvioulsy will overclock well with this board suggestions please?

Many thanks in advance

can a mod please correct the title it should say: Asus P5N-E sli what CPU will overclock well with this board?

no not really as i dont want the hassle of changing the board ie taking all componets out etc and then have to reinstall vista plus this board is only 1 month old roughly would like suggestions on CPUS not mobos

It says it's ok with 45nm chips. The E7200 would probably be a good choice, tho you would still get 100 quid for your quad.

if i im going to go with the new 45mm processors (think there comptaible with my board?) i would rather get a higher spec cpu like a E8200 upwards surely a E7200 is taking a massive drop to what i have now?

Well dropping from a quad to any dual-core is a big drop IMO.

But certainly look at the E8*00 range.

surely not if i can get a half decent overclock with a wolfdale dual core? compared to my standard quad 2.4ghz which i cant overclock anything

i have the latest bios installed so what you saying is this board will take the wolfdale 45mm dual cores but not the new 45mm quad cores?

If it can't clock a 65nm quad then there's not much hope for the 45nm quads.

the 650i chipset seriously restricts your overclocking though, i found that out so gotta buy a new mobo now :)

If u wait a short while the E8600 will b out and that **** push the prices of the 85 and 84 down a bit. I'll b buying the 8500 if its down enough. that extra 0.5 multi could make all the diff with our boards :)

The P5N-E will overclock dual core CPUs very well indeed - certainly the 65nm duals. I don't know about 45nm though but I don't see why not, use the latest BIOS.

hi i have the latest bios installed which i flashed the other day so im guessing that the 45nm will ok, but on the OCUK mobo page there is no mention of 45nm compability but i sure ive read on some other web page that the board will support the latest 45nm chips
