Hi there, been experiencing a rather strange problem with my ethernet ports on my P5Q-E and Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit.

Everytime i restart my pc, and login to my account, i receive 'No internet connection' over the network icon in the taskbar. This prevents me from doing anything internet related as you would imagine, to rectifty this i have to swap the ethernet cable to the opposite gigabit ethernet port, as soon as its swapped internet access opens and i can surf the net etc.

What iv tried:
1. Installing different drivers, Windows 7 64 Bit, Windows Vista 64 Bit and also windows update gigabit drivers.
2. Bios update, sort of figured this wouldnt make much of a difference and it didnt.
3. Different patch/crossover cables.
4. Two x ethernet cables in each port, then directly connected to the router, wouldnt work until i swapped one of the cables over.

Which to me sort of brings it down to a couple of things, but could do with a second oppinion..?

Firewall, im using Bullguard.
Router setting.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Hi NeoVo,

hmmm, I seem to remember running into an issue like that some months ago, exactly as you described, um . . . .

Iirc everything worked fine after a clean install but I decided to update drivers anyhow (as you do!), it was either installing the Intel chipset drivers or perhaps using the Windows Update driver for the Gigalan that bOrked it

I always have an Acronis backup taken just after the vanilla install is complete so I restored the backup and everything was fine! :)

I can't remember much more than that but you may have to get back to a fresh install to be sure, better that than struggling on with tedious trouble-shooting or perhaps RMA'ing a perfect board! :o

I have the same board.

I have no problem with mine. (I have not updated the drivers) only used the ones that got installed from the installation of Win 7 x64.

Thanks for the information guys, i think you might be right about it being the chipset drivers or the windows update that messed it up for me. Happened around about that time.

Probably didnt even need to install them as it was all working fine anyway :).

Will reinstall, seems like a lot of hassle for the sake of having to swap over the ethernet cable everytime i reboot but it gets old really quickly.

I Had this kind of problem on another asus board, with a single ethernet port, I would have
to disable and re-enable the adapter, or plug in and out. The problem ended up being with
powersaving options, try this
go to -> open network (taskbar) -> change adapter settings (on the left) -> properties on adapter you want -> configure -> power management -> untick all boxs -> restart pray?

This worked for me and seems like the same sort of problem I had, good luck.

Cheers for heads up, sounds like that could have been the problem. I was going to format anyway because im using an alternative firewall and anti-virus now to before so i was going to format anyway. Thanks again everyone.

Cheers, Having a similar issue (Random) "No internet access" warning over the network icon.
